Phlebotomist 5777Location: Frederick MDSchedule: 7:30am-4pm M-FProjected Duration: 3 months + potential for permBenefits are availableMinimum of 2 years of experienceDescription:Summary: The primary role of a blood draw specialist is to aid in carrying out different assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and suggesting workflow improvements.Position Responsibilities:Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.Gathers and stores specimens following established procedures.Clearly and politely explains the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and/or other specimen collection procedures to patients.Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully comprehends all physician orders.Matches requisition forms with specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.Verifies test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.Packages specimens for transportation.Stores specimen samples at correct temperature, places samples in proper containers, labels accurately, and follows specific protocol procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attends annual department trainings.Answers phone calls, reads laboratory results to address inquiries.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Phlebotomy certification required in some statesMinimum of 5 years performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting Proficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GEDMinimum of 2 years of experience
