Join a first-shift mechanical assembly team building solar panel power boxes and switchboards in a large, clean, and quiet manufacturing facility. You will work primarily in the AC, DC, and wire departments, assembling components using hand tools and power tools while following detailed prints and instructions. Responsibilities

• Assemble solar panel power boxes and switchboards in the AC, DC, and wire departments using hand tools, air power tools, and torque wrenches.

• Work from daily job setups where panel boxes, switchboards, wire, and related components are prepared on shelves and organized for assembly.

• Read and interpret prints to determine correct placement of parts and components within panel backs and other assemblies.

• Pull wire and spool it accurately according to specifications, ensuring correct lengths and organization for assembly.

• Feed and route wires through panels and metal plates, stripping wires as needed to complete electrical connections within power boxes.

• Use screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners to secure components, ensuring assemblies are tight, accurate, and meet quality standards.

• Work as part of a non-automated assembly line, collaborating closely with team members in both wire spooling and mechanical assembly areas.

• Remain in a designated work area for the shift, focusing either on wire spooling or on mechanical assembly tasks as assigned.

• Achieve a production target of assembling up to 64 panels per day once fully trained and up to speed.

• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment provided.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.

• Participate in cross-training across wire and DC teams to build versatility and support multiple production needs.

• Adapt to overtime needs, including potential Friday overtime, as communicated in advance during the week.

Essential Skills

• Mechanical assembly experience or basic mechanical aptitude with a strong interest in learning.

• Ability to read and interpret prints or diagrams; familiarity with simple assembly instructions (such as furniture-style diagrams) is acceptable.

• Proficiency in reading a tape measure accurately for measuring components and wire lengths.

• Experience using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers in an assembly or similar environment.

• Comfort working with power tools and air tools under guidance and training.

• Ability to perform repetitive tasks on an assembly line while maintaining accuracy and quality.

• Capability to lift up to 40 pounds regularly as part of manual labor within the assembly process.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, communicating and coordinating tasks to meet production goals.

• Willingness to follow safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment.

• Reliability in attending a first-shift schedule with potential overtime as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or production environment.

• Familiarity with wiring tasks such as pulling, routing, and stripping wire.

• Experience using pneumatic tools in an industrial or assembly setting.

• Experience with a foot pedal crimper or similar crimping tools.

• Comfort working in a non-automated, hands-on assembly environment.

• Interest in developing a long-term career in mechanical or electrical assembly through on-the-job training.

• Ability to adapt to cross-training between different departments such as wire and DC.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift role operating on a four-day schedule of 10-hour shifts from Monday through Thursday, with the potential for an additional 5 hours on Friday. Overtime needs for Friday are communicated on Wednesday morning, and the team has consistently worked 40 to 45 hours per week over the past year. The work takes place in a large, very clean, and quiet manufacturing facility focused on assembling solar panel power boxes and switchboards. Teams are small, typically 4 to 6 people, with about 20 people on the first shift, and the operation is in the process of expanding with additional shifts. Work involves manual labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for most of the shift while working on a non-automated assembly line and wire spooling operations. The environment is not temperature controlled but is supported with fans for air circulation. The dress code is casual but safety-focused: shirts must have sleeves (short or long), pants without holes are required, and steel-toe boots must be worn. The company supplies safety glasses and gloves as needed. Employees may wear headphones with a single earbud during work, contributing to a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere while maintaining safety and communication standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walker, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
