Cardiac Sonographer III Department: PCH-MAIN | Cardio Diag and Non-Invas Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon‑Fri, days vary, 8:30 am‑4:00 pm Category: Radiology/Imaging Services Posting #: 992234 Employee Type: Full‑Time Position Summary This position demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills for performing diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations and cardiology procedures. The role provides diagnostic data for the interpretation of disease and injuries in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements. It requires focused critical thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an outcome‑oriented approach to care. Position Duties Perform basic and advanced diagnostic cardiac sonography on patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. Determine proper technique and positioning to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards, protocols, and procedures. Perform or assist with pediatric and/or adult congenital cardiac sonography exams and procedures, demonstrating mastery of complex pediatric congenital echo and willingness to teach others when opportunities arise. Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and coworkers while performing all activities of the job. Document preliminary and final reports, including pertinent medical history, anatomic findings, and measurements, ensuring clarity, conciseness, and grammatical correctness. Utilize Syngo and/or Electronic Health Record systems for timely and accurate result capture, charge capture, and archival of studies. Continuously pursue knowledge and self‑improvement through current literature, practice updates, staff meetings, conferences, and professional journals to maintain continuing education credits. Participate in career development, leadership activities, quality improvement initiatives, and serve as a preceptor to students, fellows, and orientees. Assist with cleaning, restocking, and turnover of exam rooms and equipment; record information in departmental logs; identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; report service needs and maintain preventive maintenance documentation. Position Qualifications Education: Graduation from a CAAHEP or ACCSC accredited cardiac sonography program or equivalent, or 10 years experience in cardiac ultrasound. Experience: 6 years full‑time pediatric cardiac sonography. Internal candidates must have 3 years full‑time experience at Phoenix Children’s with proven leadership skills. Special Skills: Share on‑call duties with peers after hours, on weekends and holidays; work independently at satellite locations; flexibility for roving assignments; maintain a positive professional demeanor; effective communication and relationship building. Additional Requirements: ARDMS RDCS‑Pediatric (RDCS PE) or CCI Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS); current BLS for Healthcare Providers via the American Heart Association. Preferred: Membership to professional societies (e.g., ASE, SDMS, AIUM). Certification / License / Registry Requirements: American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Peds – Required; Basic Life Support – Required. Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential Physical: Continuous sense of textures/temperatures, fine motor skills, hearing, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, walking, vision, color discrimination, keyboard/mouse use, lifting up to 35 lbs occasionally.
