Description

Purpose of Job: Perform responsible clerical and technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of fiscal records. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Job Duties:

1. Receipt, record, balance cash receipts, and record daily transactions.
2. Assist customers with establishing new service accounts, closing or transferring accounts and advise customers on billing, collection, and service procedures.
3. Operate CRT in initiating new accounts and daily reports.
4. Research and correct errors in accounts.
5. Prepare daily reports and submit for approval.
6. Post, check balances, update, and adjust financial records.

Other Job Duties:

1. Perform a wide variety of account keeping and clerical tasks.
2. Perform related tasks as required.

Primary Job Challenges:

1. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while multitasking while maintaining accuracy.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
3. Knowledge of multiple utilities.
4. Coordinate with multiple departments to maintain accurate records of utility services.

Equipment Operated:

1. Operate CRT, computer, calculator, and other standard office equipment.

1. Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment.
2. Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
3. Some knowledge of routine accounting principles.
4. Ability to maintain complex financial records and prepare reports and statements.
5. Ability to make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately.
6. Ability to post accounts with speed and accuracy.
7. Ability to effectively operate a variety of office machines.
8. Ability to deal effectively with customers, coworkers, and the general public.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

1. Employee will work mostly in an indoor office environment and will sit, stand, stoop, walk, and lift light objects (typically 25 pounds or less).

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Graduation from a standard high school and considerable experience in progressively responsible office work involving bookkeeping and accounting; or a combination of experience and training equivalent to the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Required Certifications/Licenses: N/A. Will be required to pass a physical examination based on the essential functions of the job by the City of Springfield's designated physician and required to pass a background and credit check by the City of Springfield's designated representative.
