Radar Signal Processing Engineer

The Sensor Technologies Group is seeking an experienced Radar Signal Processing Engineer with a strong mathematical background to make critical contributions to next-generation radar systems supporting air and missile defense.

In this role, you will work in the Advanced Signal Processing Section to develop, prototype, and transition signal-processing algorithms, waveforms, and control strategies for next-generation radar systems. Your work will use modeling and simulation environments and will frequently be applied to APL prototype systems—such as software-defined radios—and collected data from higher-maturity systems. These concepts will improve future sensing capabilities for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting (ISR&T).

As a Radar Signal Processing Engineer, you will:

• Develop and prototype system-level concepts for next-generation radar and electronic-warfare systems, emphasizing digital-array technology.
• Develop waveforms and signal-processing techniques for improved sensing performance in congested and contested environments, while accounting for practical implementation constraints.
• Conduct sponsor-funded trade studies in phased-array radar and electronic protection using internally developed M&S tools. Formulate scientific approaches, interpret findings, and document and present results.
• Have opportunities to serve as a principal investigator (PI) and technical lead for sponsor-funded research and development efforts, guiding technical strategy, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and communicating results to sponsors and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with group members to conduct demonstration efforts and data collections, process collected data, and evaluate technique effectiveness in relevant environments.

Qualifications:

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

• A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience developing, modeling, or analyzing radar, sensor, or signal-processing systems.
• A strong foundation in digital signal processing and related mathematical concepts, such as Fourier analysis, statistical signal processing, detection and estimation theory, and linear algebra.
• Experience with phased-array radar concepts and one or more advanced signal-processing techniques, such as adaptive beamforming, space-time adaptive processing (STAP), waveform design, detection/estimation, or electronic protection.
• Strong MATLAB programming skills and experience developing or using modeling and simulation tools to analyze complex systems.
• Ability to travel up to 5% of the time as needed.
• Hold an active Secret security clearance and be eligible to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in signal processing, communications, or control/linear system theory
• Strong knowledge of antenna electromagnetic theory
• Experience implementing advanced radar waveform design and signal processing techniques
• Strong working knowledge of tracker design and operation
• Experience in Python and C/C++ programming

Minimum Rate: $100,000 Annually

Maximum Rate: $195,000 Annually
