About the Position

Job Description

Enloe Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join its perioperative team on the Day Shift . The RNFA functions as a licensed professional providing direct patient care while serving as the First Assistant to the surgeon during surgical procedures.

Working under the supervision of the operating surgeon, the RNFA practices an expanded role in perioperative nursing, utilizing advanced knowledge, clinical judgment, and technical skills acquired through specialized education and supervised practice. The position supports surgical procedures in both the Main Operating Room and Labor and Delivery Suite , ensuring exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Function as the First Assistant to the surgeon during surgical procedures.
• Provide direct perioperative patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards.
• Assist with surgical exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, suturing, and other intraoperative responsibilities within RNFA scope of practice.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the multidisciplinary surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
• Monitor patient status throughout the perioperative process and document care accurately.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure & Certification

• Current, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification (required)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Credentialing Requirements

• Must successfully complete Enloe Medical Staff credentialing prior to starting the assignment.
• Credentialing process requires approximately 6–8 weeks .
