Director, Business Development

Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Director of Business Development on behalf of our client, a leading U.S. freight forwarder and logistics solutions provider. This role is responsible for driving revenue growth through strategic prospecting, relationship building, and new business acquisition. The Director of Business Development will focus on identifying and securing new customers, developing targeted sales strategies, and positioning the organization as a trusted logistics partner. This individual will play a key role in expanding market presence while delivering exceptional customer experiences and supporting long-term business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, prospect, and secure new business opportunities within the transportation and logistics industry.
  • Develop and execute targeted sales strategies to penetrate new markets and expand customer relationships.
  • Generate leads through cold calling, networking, industry events, trade shows, and referrals.
  • Conduct market research to understand prospective client needs and develop customized sales approaches.
  • Present and demonstrate transportation and logistics solutions to prospective customers.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers, including C-suite executives and senior leadership teams.
  • Lead contract negotiations and close new business opportunities while ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with operations, pricing, account management, and customer service teams to support successful client onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate sales activity, pipeline management, and forecasting within Salesforce.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a strong professional network within the transportation and logistics sector.
  • Consistently meet or exceed established sales and revenue goals.
  • Uphold company values through ethical business practices, customer engagement, and operational excellence.
Requirements Include:
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of transportation industry experience across multiple transportation modes.
  • Minimum of 3 years of business development experience within third-party logistics (3PL), contract logistics, freight forwarding, or related transportation services.
  • Proven track record of generating new business and achieving sales growth targets.
  • Experience selling multimodal transportation and logistics solutions preferred.
Skills:

  • Strong consultative and solution-based sales skills.
  • Excellent prospecting, lead generation, and cold-calling abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple opportunities and manage a complex sales pipeline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Certifications:

  • Professional sales or logistics certifications are a plus but not required.
Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of transportation, freight forwarding, logistics, and supply chain solutions.
  • Knowledge of multimodal transportation services and industry trends.
  • Understanding of logistics pricing structures, contracts, and customer service expectations.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, sales forecasting, and pipeline management.
  • Knowledge of market dynamics and competitive positioning within the logistics industry.
