School Nutrition Manager

The School Nutrition Manager is responsible for maintaining policies and standards of the system, in the school, regarding practices of food preparation and service, sanitation, personnel management and record keeping.

Salary is based on appropriate salary schedule (based on credentials), adjusted for days worked.

The School Nutrition Manager oversees and manages the meal production, service line set up, meal presentation food quality, and sanitation procedures. Provides leadership and direction to all school nutrition food assistants to ensure that all schools serve high quality meals.

Ensures the school site program operation fully implements all federal, state, and local procedures related to SNP. Purchases food and supplies according to policies set up by the Board of Education, USDS, and SNP Director. Cooperates with the SNP Director in the financial operation of the cafeteria.

Cooperates with the Principal and other school faculty members in furthering the school food service program as an educational asset in the school program, including the use of the cafeteria as a laboratory. Plans manager's choice menus using appropriate leftovers when possible. Follows system menus.

Establishes duties and work schedules for all employees. Work schedules must be posted and implemented. Maintains desirable standards of operation, sanitation, and conduct. Follows all standard operating procedures.

Maintains temperature logs of coolers, freezers, and storerooms. Oversees the locking of storerooms and securing the kitchen. Maintains all required forms daily - food production records, # 112, 118, 120 & supplemental sales form.

Keeps necessary records and financial accounts the SNP Director may deem necessary and submits such reports to the SNP Director on schedule. Keeps accurate time sheets and turns them in to the office of the Director on schedule.

Follows System HACCP Plan. Participates in all "in-service meetings". Substitutes at any job, when necessary, and does other work as required. Instructs employees regarding the policies of the school food service program. And sees that polices are enforced. Provides on the job training.

Makes recommendations concerning the program to the Director and the Principal. Carries out recommendations and plans in cooperation with the Director and Principal. Interviews prospective employees with the Director.

Encourages each employee to observe high standards of grooming and work habits. Use standardized recipes and instructs and leads employees in their use. Supervises and instructs all employees in the correct and safe use and maintenance of equipment.

Reports accidents and emergencies to the school secretary immediately. The school secretary will complete the worker's comp form and send to the Central Office. Knows and assists in implementation of correct collection procedure for breakfast and lunch, etc.

In collection year, will collect, check, and route all lunch applications to the nutrition office. Evaluates employee's performance annually. Write a corrective action plan if necessary. Trains assistant managers in all management functions.

Manager is encouraged to participate in nutrition education implementation. Required to dress in uniforms and shoes provided or furnish their own appropriate ones, "Appropriate" will be determined by the Director. Required to check temperatures in the summer months.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Director or Principal may assign.
