The Shop Technician – Electrical Assembly is responsible for wiring electrical boxes and installing, inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting electrical components in manufactured well service rigs. This position requires hands-on electrical assembly experience, the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics, and a strong commitment to safe work practices, quality standards, and accurate documentation. Work is performed under established company procedures and applicable safety requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Wire electrical boxes and install electrical components, including switches, relays, control panels, lighting, terminal boards, junction boxes, cables, fuses, and related control-system components into well service rigs according to company engineering specifications and blueprints.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, manufacturer specifications, and technical documentation to determine wiring layouts, installation methods, and troubleshooting steps.
• Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical systems and components using visual inspections, meters, diagnostic equipment, and applicable testing procedures.
• Adjust, repair, or replace defective wiring, relays, switches, connectors, lighting, control components, and related electrical parts.
• Splice, terminate, route, secure, and label wiring and cable assemblies using approved tools, materials, and workmanship standards.
• Cut, drill, mount, and install fixtures, boxes, conduit supports, panels, and related components using hand tools and power tools.
• Reassemble, function-test, and document completed electrical work after installation, troubleshooting, or repair.
• Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, quality, and other technicians to ensure proper integration of electrical components into manufactured equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records, installation logs, inspection reports, test results, and service documentation.
• Comply with company safety policies, electrical safe-work practices, quality standards, and applicable regulatory, customer, and site-specific requirements while performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training, vocational coursework, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in electrical, electronics, industrial maintenance, automotive/transportation electrical, or related field preferred.
• Typically requires 2–3 years of experience in electrical wiring, installation, assembly, troubleshooting, or repair; relevant experience in industrial equipment, vehicle manufacturing, oilfield equipment, transportation equipment, or heavy-equipment manufacturing is preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and technical manuals.
• Working knowledge of electrical safe-work practices and applicable electrical standards, including NEC awareness and NFPA 70E principles appropriate to assigned tasks.
• Valid electrician’s license or certification required only where required by state, local, customer, or job-specific regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency using electrical hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and related shop equipment.
• Ability to identify electrical defects, troubleshoot circuit or component issues, verify absence of voltage when required, and escalate unsafe conditions or nonconforming work.
• Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces, and performing detailed wiring or assembly work for extended periods.
• Experience with well service rigs, heavy equipment, transportation equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, or mobile equipment controls preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, communication, teamwork, and commitment to safe work practices required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Work is performed primarily in a shop/manufacturing environment with occasional outdoor work; exposure is generally not to temperature extremes and noise levels are typically moderate.
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and participate in team lifts up to 100 pounds when required by the task.
• During a typical 8-hour shift, work may include approximately 6 hours of standing, 3 hours of walking, and 2 hours of sitting, depending on production needs and assigned tasks.
• Frequently bend and kneel; frequently climb ladders, scaffolds, or equipment up to approximately 15 feet.
• Occasionally reach, push, and pull while handling tools, parts, wiring, and rig components.
• Constant fine motor activity is required for wiring, electrical assembly, diagnostic testing, and use of small tools and components.
• Grip strength of approximately 40–60 pounds may be required for tool handling, assembly work, and equipment manipulation.
• May work in confined spaces during installation, inspection, troubleshooting, or repair activities.
• Uses electrical tools, diagnostic equipment, power tools, ladders/scaffolds, and related shop equipment.
• Required PPE may include steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection when required, electrical-rated gloves, arc-rated PPE, and other task-specific PPE identified through hazard assessment, company policy, customer requirements, or site conditions.

Safety Training Requirements

• Complete company safety orientation and job-specific shop safety training after performing assigned work.
• Complete electrical safety training appropriate to assigned tasks, including recognition and avoidance of electrical hazards, safe testing practices, and energized-equipment awareness.
• Complete lockout/tagout training and follow applicable energy-control procedures after servicing, troubleshooting, testing, or working on electrical or powered equipment.
• Complete arc-flash hazard awareness and task-appropriate PPE training, including use, inspection, care, and limitations of arc-rated and electrical-rated PPE.
• Complete training on required PPE, hazard communication, hand and power tool safety, ladder/scaffold awareness, and confined-space awareness as applicable to assigned work.
• Maintain any additional customer, site-specific, regulatory, or refresher training required for assigned tasks, equipment, work location, or demonstrated competency.
