Overview Healthy Harvest Corps (HHC) is an AmeriCorps program administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks as part of a coordinated statewide effort to expand and sustain Food Is Medicine initiatives. These initiatives recognize access to healthy food as a critical component of improving health outcomes and overall well-being. AmeriCorps volunteers will play an important role in addressing hunger as a social determinant of health by supporting programs that connect individuals and families with nutritious food resources. Through the Healthy Harvest Corps program, OAF will place 13 AmeriCorps members at 8 host sites across Ohio to support Food Is Medicine initiatives and strengthen community-based hunger relief efforts. This position is located at Shared Harvest Foodbank in Fairfield. Shared Harvest Foodbank was founded in 1983. Our core program is to collect, warehouse, transport and distribute contributions of wholesome surplus food and other grocery style products to more than 100 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and similar nonprofits in Butler, Warren, Preble, Darke and Miami counties. Shared Harvest also administers USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program for four sister Foodbank’s serving an additional 26 Ohio counties. Member Duties Advance Food Is Medicine initiatives by supporting the implementation of Healthy Eating Research (HER) guidelines across foodbank programs and services. Evaluate and rank food items using nutrition standards. Develop training and educational materials. Collaborate with foodbank staff and partners. Collect feedback from community members. Create resources that can be utilized across Ohio's statewide hunger relief network.
