Business Operations Manager (R&D)

Company BioCryst is a biotechnology company focused on developing therapeutics for rare diseases, with headquarters in Durham, NC and operations in multiple locations. Job Summary The R&D Business Operations Manager will be the lead support function for the Chief R&D Officer and also provide support to his Leadership Team as needed. The role supports the R&D leadership team by bridging administration and operational excellence and strategic communication. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, agile, adaptable with good communication skills and a motivated team player. Preferred location: Boston, MA or Durham, NC. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Calendar, Operational Responsibilities & Logistics Management: Manage complex, high‑velocity calendars for key R&D leaders, prioritize and gatekeep time to ensure leadership focuses on mission‑critical milestones; manage the contracting & PO process, including vendor management, budgeting, and expense reporting. Meeting Synthesis & Governance: Attend leadership and cross‑functional meetings to capture technical and strategic nuances; transform meeting outcomes into clear action plans, ensuring accountability across the organization. Town Hall & Event Orchestration: Lead the end-to‑end execution of R&D‑wide events such as Town Halls, Scientific Advisory Boards, and internal off‑sites; manage technical platforms for hybrid/global meetings to ensure a single‑team experience. Scientific & Corporate Storytelling: Design or assist in high‑impact slide decks for internal Town Halls and presentations; develop script‑ready talking points for executives that align with BioCryst’s corporate goals and patient‑centric culture. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between R&D and various departments (HR, Commercial, Finance, Investor Relations, Legal) for logistical coordination. All other duties as assigned. Experience & Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a scientific area) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Biotech/Pharma Experience: 5+ years in an executive support or operations role within the life sciences industry; familiarity with biotech terminology and the drug development lifecycle is a significant plus. Visual Communication: Proficiency with PowerPoint and an eye for clean, professional design that meets corporate branding standards. Excellent Writing: Ability to draft talking points and internal memos that are professional, empathetic, and scientifically grounded. Agility: Ability to pivot quickly in a fast‑paced, mid‑size environment where priorities shift on clinical or regulatory updates. Discretion: Integrity and experience handling sensitive data related to clinical trials, intellectual property, and corporate strategy. Self‑motivated with the ability to meet timelines.
