TITLE: Food Service Supervisor

REPORTS TO: School Lunch Manager

Hours: Monday-Friday 6:15am - 1pm

Purpose: The Food Service Supervisor will have the primary responsibility of supervising food service employees and participating in the service of meals to students and teaching staff. The Food Service Supervisor plans and carries out work as directed by the Food Service Director. The Food Service Supervisor will also have the primary responsibility of being the “face” of the building/department and ensuring all patrons receive a warm and friendly greeting. This Result Oriented Job Description is in conjunction with the job description provided by the Wayne County Civil Service.

  Expected Results:

1. The Food Service Supervisor will ensure the day-to-day functions of the building/department will be accomplished by:

• Maintaining current, relevant knowledge of food preparation, food costs, and other food service activities.

• Supervising food service employees in the preparation and service of meals.

• Conferring with the School Lunch Manager in portion control and menu cost analysis

• Requisitioning kitchen prepared food and other supplies from the stockroom.

• Keeping records of meals served, creating reports and maintaining other related data as directed.

• Performing cashier duties, receiving cash for sales, and keeping accounting records.

• Training food service employees in cleaning, food preparation and other food service activities.

• Assisting in the preparation of menus, work schedules and special diets.

• Focusing on resourcefulness in food preparation, service and supplies.

• Following all requirements, regulations, and policies outlined in the Food Service Handbook.

1. The Food Service Supervisor will ensure all parents, students, community members, employees, and all visitors to the Palmyra-Macedon CSD will experience the Pal-Mac Way by:

• Greeting parents, students, community members, employees, and all visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude.

• Displaying a customer service approach when working with others in person, on the phone, and through written and electronic communication.

• Being attentive to the needs of all individuals who request their assistance.

• Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing.

• Utilizing their skills to de-escalate a situation when other people are in a heightened or excited state.

1. The Food Service Supervisor will assume other duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned by the School Lunch Manager.

Job Qualifications

The Food Service Supervisor will possess the following minimum qualities, qualifications, skills, and/or abilities:

• Have a High School Diploma or equivalent;

• Must comply with the acceptable experience and training outlined in the Wayne County Civil Service job description.

• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

• Fingerprint clearance through New York State Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability.

• Evidence of an open, collaborative style that fosters a sense of teamwork and common purpose.

• Proven people skills and is an effective communicator with a sense of humor. The successful candidate will be positive, approachable, and respectful of others.

• Willingness to become an active, engaged and visible member of the Pal-Mac community.

• A clear communicator in oral and written language, including electronic communication.

• Work collaboratively with other staff members, administrators, students, and parents.

• Use problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

• Listens first.
