Lead Principal Data Hall Designer

Salary: $142,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• Extensive experience in data center white space planning, design, and optimization, including rack layout, containment, power distribution, cabling, and build sequencing
• Strong background in leading engagements with colocation providers, developers, and multidisciplinary internal engineering and operations teams
• Deep expertise in structured cabling, mission-critical infrastructure, and low-voltage systems for compute, storage, and network environments
• Proven ability to guide standards development, basis of design documents, commissioning protocols, and governance processes
• Demonstrated experience managing complex engineering projects, timelines, budgets, deliverables, change orders, and cost forecasts
• Strong problem-solving capability with experience serving as an escalation point for advanced technical issues
• Ability to influence stakeholders, coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical groups
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development, knowledge sharing, and talent decisions
• Familiarity with network collaboration, automation, digital design data, and data center modeling tools
• Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in an engineering or related technical field is typically implied by the seniority of the role

• Plan, design, and optimize data center white space, including rack placement, airflow containment, power layout, cable routing, and phased build execution
• Maintain detailed white space documentation such as room layouts, rack elevations, bills of materials, and cabling designs
• Develop and refine design standards and Basis of Design documents to support consistent and scalable solutions
• Oversee low-voltage structured cabling designs for high-performance compute, storage, and networking environments
• Review new site layouts and fit-out proposals, including failover arrangements, to ensure alignment with standards
• Work with colocation providers, developers, and internal teams to align design execution with business objectives
• Partner with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire, Controls, network, compute, and carrier teams to integrate systems and manage risk
• Lead project coordination meetings and provide direction to contractors, vendors, and internal project members through design, fit-out, and commissioning phases
• Manage planning, schedules, deliverables, and budgets for high-impact initiatives, adjusting resources as priorities shift
• Support on-site validation, commissioning, engineering analysis, live event response, and incident investigations
• Drive the creation, review, and upkeep of global infrastructure standards, policies, procedures, and testing documentation
• Research and evaluate new materials, methods, and engineering approaches to improve reliability, efficiency, and innovation
• Support automation efforts by helping translate design data into digital systems and internal databases
• Provide thought leadership, training, and mentoring to strengthen team capability and advance technical excellence
• Contribute to hiring decisions, candidate assessment, and broader talent development efforts
