Position Description

This recruitment will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department offers extremely competitive benefits in addition to the annual salary. These benefits, however, are subject to change.

• 3 weeks of annual vacation; 104 hours of annual sick leave; 13 paid holidays per year.

Salary Information:

The salary for this position is negotiated through a collective bargaining agreement. All new employees will be hired at step three of the salary range ($72,716.80 annually) and will be eligible for merit increases until reaching the maximum salary in the range.

Starting Annual Salary as a Helicopter Mechanic (Step Three): - $72,716.80

6 months after hire date (4% merit increase): - $75,608.00

12 months after hire date (4% merit increase): - $78,644.80

5 years after hire date: - $91.998.40

10 years after hire date: - $99,507.20

**The above figures do not include future Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA), Public Employee Retirement System (NVPERS), or collective bargaining agreement changes.

Definition Incumbents troubleshoot and diagnose aircraft maintenance problems and perform duties related to routine maintenance, structural repairs, rebuilding and/or upgrading of major aircraft components and systems and keeping of maintenance records.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Training, Education and Experience

• Three years of increasingly responsible maintenance and repair experience as an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician; or
• Five years of increasingly responsible maintenance and repair experience in the United States military on Helicopter/Rotor Wing Aircraft and currently an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training and classes in helicopter and aircraft repair.
• Possession of a current Airframe and Powerplant Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Candidates will be required to submit a copy, in the form of an attachment, (both front and back) of this Certificate with the online application.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Nevada driver license.
• Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument.
• Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument.

Best Candidates Will Have

• Maintenance experience on MD500/MD530 series and Airbus H125, H135, H145 series helicopters.
• Avionics experience.
• Specialized training and classes in helicopter repair.
• Familiarity with the Digital Airware Aviation Management Software program.

1. Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands, neck, head, or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.

3. Be available for callouts.
4. Be available for working shifts, holidays and weekends, or irregular work hours.
5. Maintain a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate and Nevada driver license.
6. Possess a complete set of aircraft mechanic tools.
7. Must not have incurred any FAA suspensions/revocations.
8. Vision sufficient to read an aircraft's control board, computer screen, and fine prints in documents.
9. Color vision sufficient to distinguish among colored power and signal cables and color indicators on an aircraft's control board.
10. Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone and radio.
11. Dexterity and mobility sufficient to operate inside of and perform maintenance tasks in an aircraft, operate standard office equipment, and motorized vehicles; climb ladders and stairs; work indoor and outdoor, including the office and maintenance shop.
12. Agility sufficient to bend, twist, crawl, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, and reach overhead, forward, and backward, rotate neck and trunk.
