As our Echo Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer), you will utilize your expertise to produce two-dimensional cardiac ultrasonic recordings to evaluate the anatomy and hemodynamics (blood flow) of the heart, its valves and related blood vessels as prescribed by a physician for purposes of disease diagnosis and study of malfunctioning organs. Every day, you will perform ultrasound procedures, stress echo's; bubble studies and contrast echo's, perform technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient test results utilizing efficient and safe processes that are in keeping with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements. To be successful in this role, you will deeply understand the critical importance of the safe, efficient and proper operation of ultrasound equipment. You will be accountable for keeping abreast of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health(VMFH) standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department, keeping skills current, demonstrating evidence of continuing education to include department meetings, individualized learning opportunities from physicians and related classes.

  • Performs ultrasound examinations and special procedures in accordance with physician orders and department protocols, ensuring accurate imaging of the requested anatomy while providing age-appropriate patient care.
  • Prepares patients for procedures by explaining exams, obtaining pertinent medical history, answering questions, and serving as a liaison between patients, physicians, and care team members.
  • Utilizes appropriate ultrasound equipment, accessories, and imaging techniques to optimize diagnostic quality, ensure patient comfort and safety, and support accurate clinical evaluation.
  • Monitors patient condition throughout procedures, documents pertinent findings, communicates significant changes to nursing staff and physicians, and responds appropriately to emergency situations within scope of practice.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, reviews and compiles clinical data for physician interpretation, and ensures diagnostic studies meet quality standards and departmental timelines.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, calibration, and cleaning in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, while supporting department operations through scheduling, record management, supply ordering, inventory control, and other administrative duties.

Job Requirements Required

  • Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound/echo sonography program that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.
  • One year of post-graduate experience in cardiac ultrasound and/or demonstrated high degree of proficiency, knowledge, and acuity in the field of diagnostics or ultrasound is preferred.
  • Current registration by ARDMS, or current certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  • Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
