Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty or equivalent training (including ACGME or AOA accredited programs). Proficiency in spoken and written English. Board Certified Hematologist/Oncologist (additional requirement). Physicians currently employed within VA who met the appointment requirements under the previous qualification standard are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Responsibilities Maintain professional, technical, and administrative knowledge and competencies to provide effective, timely, and quality patient care. Provide hematology/oncology services in inpatient and outpatient settings, including the administration of outpatient chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Perform or supervise bone marrow aspirations and biopsies. Diagnose and treat patients, develop therapeutic plans, and manage patient emergencies. Document medical records accurately and in compliance with current standards. Supervise physician assistants, nurse practitioners, fellows, residents, and rotating house staff. Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through clinical experiences. Participate in credentialing and privileging processes and other monitoring and evaluation requirements. Ensure patient education and engagement throughout treatment. Adhere to institutional policies and quality standards. Work schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
