Lead Phlebotomist
Martin County Hospital District (MCHD) was organized in 1967 and has boundaries coterminous with Martin County, Texas. It is located in the heart of West Texas. Opened in 1949, the hospital was originally located near downtown Stanton. This facility served the community well for many years but was replaced with a state of the art 18 bed facility in 2012. The new facility is located on I20 and has been designated as a Critical Access Hospital.
The Lead Phlebotomist supervises the phlebotomy staff, coordinates daily workflow, performs specific activities as necessary in the hospital and laboratory environment, venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently, as well as ensures compliance with laboratory policies, safety regulations, and quality standards. Assist technical staff as needed to maintain the process flow. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements; verifies accuracy of specimen/patient identifiers ensures the use of correct tube type for the appropriate test sets up waived testing, records results and reports those normal interfaced results. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining clean benches and work areas. Help with inventory and assist with phlebotomy supply ordering. Assists with inspecting and receiving new supplies/reagents, having full understanding of raw materials. Rotates old to front and stocks those as they come in. Rely on gained lab experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Is self-sufficient, critical thinker and understands when needs to refer matters to the technical staff.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Licenses/Certificates: National phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent) is not required but recommended. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred. Must be BLS certified
Experience: Minimum of 25 years of phlebotomy experience.
