Basic Function

The Public Area Attendant is responsible for the general cleanliness and safety of all public places in the hotel and for handling different requests from guests.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain all public, Inn, and association spaces, including windows, floors, carpets, and walkways
• Remove trash and spilled food or drink from public areas; empty trash cans and vacuum carpets
• Inspect landings, walkways, buildings, and grounds along assigned route; report maintenance or repair needs to the Housekeeping Manager
• Help in laundry as needed - launder shower liners, blankets, sheets, towels, and mattress pads, matching each load to the proper wash/dry cycle.
• Respond to guest requests for housekeeping supplies (linens, cribs, etc.) in a timely, efficient manner
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of housekeeping closets, including trash removal and wiping down shelves/counters
• Provide guests with information about attractions, events, and points of interest
• Remove beach chairs and umbrellas left on the beach after hours as needed
• Manage inventory of public area supplies and chemicals; submit inventory needs to the Manager and minimize waste
• Inventory and inspect towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and air fresheners throughout public areas
• Perform carpet care using bonnet and extraction methods, including condo units and accommodations upon request
• Assist with deep cleaning projects and recommend or arrange additional services such as painting, repairs, or replacement of furnishings and equipment
• Support annual property-wide deep cleaning, carpet extraction, and preventive maintenance walkthroughs as directed by management

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred

• Prior work experience in housekeeping, laundry, or a similar cleaning/maintenance role

• Hands-on experience with industrial cleaning equipment (power washer, leaf blower, carpet extractor) and cleaning products

• Understanding of safety hazards and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) protocols

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, stay organized, and take initiative

• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends

Working Conditions

Primarily works outdoors and throughout public/guest areas of the property on Sanibel Island, FL, in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity. Some extended hours may be required during peak season or other critical operational periods.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking

• Able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Able to safely operate industrial cleaning equipment, including power washers, leaf blowers, and carpet extractors

• Must be able to work in SW Florida outdoor temperatures as needed

Cross-Training & Emergency Assistance

During peak periods or staffing emergencies, all team members may be asked to assist other departments as directed by management. This may include supporting Maintenance, Front Desk, or other operational areas to ensure uninterrupted guest service.
