Overview ERP International, LLC is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for a full-time position supporting Naval Medical Center San Diego. Responsibilities Schedule: 8 hour shifts. Sunday – Saturday from 0600-1800 hours, including holidays. Independently prepare patients, exam rooms, and procedure tables using techniques categorized as dirty, clean, sterile, or aseptic. Set up and operate imaging equipment (angiographic imaging systems, CT, ultrasound) to best present medically significant aspects when unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered. Perform complex and highly specialized duties of the IR technologist; assist in all aspects of procedures, including handling specific equipment, preparing and utilizing procedure‑specific supplies, medications, and devices. Serve as primary assistant to the Interventional Radiologist, performing complex IR procedures such as diagnostic and interventional arterial/venous procedures (transarterial chemoembolization, uterine fibroid embolization, pelvic congestion syndrome embolization, gonadal vein embolization, thrombolysis, thrombectomy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stent implantation, fistulagram/shuntogram, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, foreign body removal) and non‑vascular procedures (gastrointestinal studies, urinary studies, drainage studies, biopsies). Function as the primary circulator during all cases. Prepare, organize, and maintain complex sterile surgical set‑ups; observe and respond promptly to each stage of the procedure and anticipate the needs of the IR. Utilize universal precautions and follow infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies, and equipment; maintain an adequate stock of sterile instruments and linen. Keep a clean and orderly room at all times. Perform clerical duties, such as triage and scheduling of patients after reviewing requests from physicians and other health care providers; call for, receive, and explain procedures to all patients; prioritize critical and emergency procedures; rearrange patient schedules to accommodate them; retrieve pertinent lab results; and ensure all paperwork such as H&P, allergies, medications, lab values, prior studies, and insurance information is accurate. Assist in training students and other military technologists in IR principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment. Perform operator‑level maintenance and care of equipment; identify need for and initiate action to obtain higher‑level support. Assist in workload statistics and other records relating to IR activities and functions. On a rotational basis, stand call for angiographic and interventional studies needed after normal duty hours. Adjust techniques for observed physiological and anatomical conditions and apply judgment to deviate from procedures and tables when needed; maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of developments in the field of IR radiology. Require long periods of standing and walking, including bending, lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs, positioning patients; may require heavy lifting with assistance; frequent physical movement for room and equipment setup during and between cases. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Duties Receive patients and explain procedures, provide humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination, correctly position the patient for the examination and adjust as necessary, determine if any special patient preparation is required. Operate Sonography/Ultrasonography equipment (scanners, linear/sector/endovaginal probes, pulse/color Doppler, PACS equipment) as per manufacturer recommendations and department protocols. Receive and interpret requests or instructions for diagnostic ultrasound scans; perform daily warm‑up and assign quality control checks of the scanners. Explain process to patient; instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for examination. Key test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results. Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasonic examinations, including obstetrical, pelvic, abdominal, endovaginal, thoracic, small parts, pediatric, vascular, and intraoperative sonography as applicable. Identify abnormalities; determine need for additional scans; recognize anatomic variants; use detailed understanding of anatomical diseases to accomplish effective scanning. Advise the radiologist of results; provide preliminary diagnosis; notify physician of significant scans requiring immediate attention or follow‑up. Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment; stock supplies; recommend necessary repairs when quality is degraded; perform minor adjustments; differentiate artifacts; program equipment. Review new developments; attend meetings or conferences; recommend changes to supervisor to improve operation of the ultrasound section. Recognize situations requiring patient resuscitation due to cardiac or respiratory arrest and institute necessary emergency measures. Qualifications Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (degree). Graduated from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Minimum 2 years of experience, including expertise in performing a wide variety of invasive cardiovascular procedures: diagnostic and interventional left and right heart catheterization; electrophysiology studies, catheter ablation, cardiac device implantation; intra‑aortic balloon pump insertion; transeptal procedures; intravascular/intracardiac ultrasound. Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification. Ability to pass a Government background check / security clearance. Pay Scale: $60.00 - $66.00 per hour, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location.
