Emergency Veterinarian

Tempus Veterinary Recruitment

Introduction
Our client is a 24/7 veterinary hospital and emergency center seeking a full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join their team in Annandale, Virginia. Providing care for cats and dogs, the hospital combines general practice and emergency medicine under one roof and is part of a locally and family-owned group of three locations that has been serving the community for around 50 years.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As an Emergency Veterinarian, you will manage a varied emergency caseload, assessing, diagnosing, stabilizing, and treating patients presenting with urgent and potentially life-threatening conditions. You will be responsible for triaging emergency cases, developing appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans, managing hospitalized patients, performing emergency procedures and surgery where required, and communicating clearly and compassionately with clients throughout their pet's care. The position follows a three-day working week consisting of three 12-hour shifts. Doctors work a mixture of swing and overnight shifts, with some daytime shifts, following a consistent schedule that rotates every four weeks. The opportunity is open to both experienced veterinarians and new graduates. Mentorship can be provided for newer doctors developing their emergency medicine skills, alongside continued career and skill development opportunities for more advanced clinicians.

Practice Details
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides both general practice and emergency veterinary care. The hospital offers comprehensive veterinary services including wellness, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and around-the-clock emergency care. Doctors have access to extensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities including CT, high-flow oxygen, digital radiography, ultrasound, a comprehensive in-house laboratory, and a fully stocked pharmacy, providing the resources needed to investigate and manage a broad emergency caseload.

Team
The hospital has a large and experienced team of 24 DVMs alongside an excellent support team who work collaboratively with the doctors to provide high-quality patient care. As part of the same locally and family-owned group as its sister locations, the hospital benefits from a wider veterinary community while maintaining a strong emphasis on its people and culture. The support team plays an integral role in the hospital and provides doctors with the clinical support needed within a busy emergency environment. Mental health and wellbeing are also an important part of the wider hospital culture, with doctors given access to support and a platform to prioritise their wellbeing alongside their careers.
