Registered Behavior Technician

Board Certified Registered Behavior Technician Certification (RBT) for a minimum of one year. Must complete the 40 hours of Registered Behavior Technician training through an approved program to meet the RBT designation within a year of employment. Holds or is eligible to obtain full ODE licensure and/or an Ohio aide permit. Has completed a minimum of three years of successful experience in working directly with children with autism and related developmental disabilities in a home, school, or clinical setting. High School Diploma required. Any college course work in behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, human development, or a related field preferred. Possesses experience in providing skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks. Possesses a valid Ohio driver's license.

Job Overview: Provide advanced behavior analytic services to children and staff under the direction of a Lancaster City Schools Behavior Specialist. Deliver quality services to students that display intensive and/or complex behaviors, and provide ABA interventions that encourage socially acceptable replacement behaviors so students can build and improve upon their communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Assists Behavior Specialist, as directed, with behavior reduction assessments and skill acquisition plans
  • Providing direct services in one-on-one and group settings
  • Establishes & maintains therapeutic relationship by pairing self as a reinforcing entity and building the value for the student of social interaction with the RBT
  • Prompts safe and socially acceptable replacement behaviors in order to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem solving skills
  • Fades prompts appropriately to promote both successful and independent responding
  • Increases the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors by providing access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations)
  • Accurately collects behavior data including: A-B-C, count, frequency, duration, latency, inter-response time, event, and interval based recording through direct observation
  • Follows the treatment plan goals and interventions utilizing sound judgment and seeks out appropriate consultation with the Behavior Specialist
  • Collaborates with family and treatment team members to provide treatment effectively and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
  • Nurtures students' social skills
  • Designs, implements and supports appropriate function driven replacement skills training or behavior reduction plans under the supervision and direction of the Behavior Specialist
  • Ensure fidelity in implementation of individualized behavior plans developed by completing procedural fidelity checklists for students and staff
  • Respond to, model, provide feedback, and coach district staff on Applied Behavior Analysis techniques for students that are displaying high rates of problematic or disruptive behavior
  • Communicate with Behavior Specialist and Building FBA teams regarding student progress
  • Assisting Behavior Specialist with the preparation of student materials
  • Provide in-service training, coaching, and support to staff regarding principles of applied behavioral analysis
  • Follow the RBT Code of Ethic
  • Participate in meetings as requested
  • Participate in professional development to strengthen skills and knowledge of student behaviors
  • Assists with providing professional development: developmenting training materials and presentation of materials
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently with limited daily supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with administrators, staff, students, parents, and other service providers
  • Ability and comfort in supporting staff to implement behavioral strategies
  • Ability to tolerate and manage frequent verbal outburst, confrontational situations and other forms of problem behavior
  • Ability to physically intervene with students (e.g. restraint, escorting, physically guiding)
  • Knowledge and understanding of behavioral analytics, evidence-based behavioral interventions, and ABA
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBiS)
  • Basic computer skills and some familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, or Google platform equivalents

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain required certifications
  • Maintain a positive attitude and demeanor toward children
  • Prioritizes and completes assignments in a timely manner
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Maintain adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Frequent interaction among children with mental health and behavioral challenges
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
  • Occasional lift, carry, push, pull various items up to a maximum 50 pounds, e.g. paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
  • Occasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing
  • Frequent requirement to sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop
