Mortgage Loan Officer - Outside Sales

Location: Remote - Greater Grand Rapids, MI Area
Compensation: $32,000 Base Salary + $200/Week for First 3 Months + Uncapped Commission

Job Summary

Our client, an established people-first financial institution, is seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Officer to originate residential first mortgages throughout the Greater Grand Rapids market.

This is a fully outside sales and self-sourced production role for a motivated mortgage professional who knows how to build referral relationships, generate their own pipeline, and guide borrowers through the lending process.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of residential mortgage experience and an established ability to generate business through real estate professionals, community relationships, referrals, and other external sources.

Job Responsibilities
• Originate residential first mortgage loans through self-generated business and external referral networks.
• Build and maintain relationships with real estate professionals, community partners, and other referral sources.
• Consistently prospect for new mortgage and lending opportunities.
• Consult with borrowers to understand their financial goals and recommend appropriate mortgage solutions.
• Interview applicants and evaluate financial information to determine lending eligibility.
• Educate borrowers on available mortgage products, requirements, benefits, and potential risks.
• Complete mortgage applications through online, phone, and in-person channels.
• Maintain consistent communication with borrowers throughout the mortgage process.
• Deliver an exceptional member experience from initial consultation through closing.
• Maintain an organized pipeline and provide timely follow-up on active opportunities.
• Consistently achieve monthly mortgage production and deposit goals.
• Collaborate with internal lending, operations, and leadership teams to ensure a smooth loan process.

Qualifications
• 3+ years of residential mortgage lending experience.
• Proven ability to self-source mortgage leads and build referral relationships .
• Strong understanding of residential mortgage products, programs, and lending practices.
• Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding mortgage production or sales goals.
• Ability to obtain required NMLS registration .
• Strong consultative sales and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Highly organized with strong follow-up and time-management skills.
• Comfortable working independently in a commission-driven outside sales environment.
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple active loan opportunities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, CRM systems, and lending databases.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Encompass loan origination system.
• FHA and VA lending.
• Construction loans.
• Equity loans and lines of credit.
• Specialty mortgage products.
• Deposit gathering.
• Established relationships within the Greater Grand Rapids real estate community.
• Strong history of self-generated mortgage production.

Compensation & Benefits
• $32,000 base salary.
