Support Systems Administrator (Entry) - Information Services & School of Dentistry

Hiring Department This position will be part of the UMKC Information Services Teamwith a dotted line to the School of Dentistry. Job Description The Support Systems Administrator (Entry) supports a highlyspecialized academic and clinical dental environment with anemphasis on advanced graphics, 3D dental imaging, digital dentistrysystems, and rapidly evolving instructional technology. This rolerequires strong technical competency, curiosity, and a willingnessto explore, test, and support emerging technologies in a productionsetting. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a faste-paced, hands-on environment where experimentation, calculatedrisk-taking, and adaptability are essential. Primary Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain desktop and workstationcomputers, including high-performance systems used for 3Dimaging, dental CAD/CAM, and advanced graphics workflows, including3D scanners, mills, and associated dental fabricationtechnologies . Install, maintain, and support printers, scanners, andperipherals , including output devices used for dental imagingand fabrication. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Audio/Visualequipment in classrooms, clinics, simulation labs, andconference rooms. Provide onsite classroom and clinical technologysupport , including real-time troubleshooting duringinstruction, exams, and demonstrations. Provide first-line in-person, telephone, and remotesupport for faculty, staff, and students. Support users via remote support tools (e.g., Bomgar) for both instructional and clinical systems. Install, configure, update, and support desktop andspecialized dental software , including imaging, exam, andinstructional platforms. Ensure systems meet security, stability, and availabilityrequirements in coordination with campus IT and complianceguidelines. Create, manage, and troubleshoot user accounts andgroups for dental systems such as Axium, MiPACS, and relatedclinical applications . Assist with management and administration of on-boarding of newstudents, faculty and staff including assignment and renovation ofresources, access and credentialling. Support instructors, students, and staff with ExamSoft andother assessment platforms . Secondary Responsibilities Support special projects related to simulation labs, digitaldentistry, and emerging teaching technologies . Assist with integration between dental systems , imagingplatforms, and campus infrastructure. Assist with lifecycle planning for hardware and software inrapidly changing technical environments. Support and maintain research computers and specializeddevices , including non-standard hardware and faculty-builtsystems. Participate in planning, testing, and roll-out of newinstructional, clinical, and imaging technologies . Document system configurations, procedures, and supportworkflows for continuity and knowledge sharing. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, vendors, and campus ITteams on technology pilots and proof-of-concept projects . Troubleshoot complex or unusual technical issues where nopredefined solution exists. Provide informal training and guidance for faculty, students,and staff on effective use of supported technologies. Shift 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday Minimum Qualifications Experience with or strong interest in 3D imaging, modeling,scanning, or visualization technologies . Familiarity with advanced graphics, GPUs, and performancetuning . Strong experience with Windows desktop and workstationenvironments . Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, fileshares, and permissions . Experience supporting A/V systems , including projectors,displays, cameras, and control systems. Comfort troubleshooting hardware, drivers, firmware, andsoftware interactions . High technical competence with the confidence to exploreunfamiliar systems. A “builder” mindset —someone who enjoys assembling,modifying, and optimizing hardware. Comfortable taking calculated risks to solve problems ortest new solutions. Thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities. Curious, adventurous, and willing to learn by doing. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technicalusers. Works well independently and as part of a collaborative supportteam. Maintains a service-oriented mindset in a teaching, clinical,and research setting. Have a driver's license, cell phone with data, and be able tolift 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Exposure to dental imaging systems, medical imaging, orspecialized clinical software is highly desirable. Experience supporting exam or instructional platforms (e.g.,ExamSoft) is beneficial. A good understanding of scripting, including PowerShell, Batch,Bash Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or 4+ years ofsimilar work experience Experience working in Higher Education, Dental, or similarenvironment Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been establishedas $53,000 - $58,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but notlimited to, the individual’s particular combination of education,skills, and experience, as well as organizationalrequirements.
