Our organization is on the lookout for a seasoned, mission-oriented physician leader to take on the role of Chief of Staff for Pediatric Orthopedics. This position offers a unique chance to guide dedicated medical teams, maintain an active surgical practice, and contribute to the ongoing development of a well-regarded pediatric orthopedic program. The Chief of Staff will play a pivotal role in enhancing clinical excellence, operational efficiency, quality of care, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration, all while ensuring that children and their families receive compassionate, coordinated care.

We provide specialized care for children up to the age of 18, irrespective of their families' financial situations or insurance coverage. The Chief of Staff acts as the main administrative link between the orthopedic department and the hospital's executive leadership, ensuring that departmental operations align with the broader organizational goals. This physician leader will manage clinical governance, physician development, departmental operations, quality assurance, compliance, academic affairs, and strategic initiatives. Additionally, the Chief will provide executive support to physicians and Advanced Practice Providers while continuing to excel in their surgical specialty.

• Leadership and Operations:
  • Serve as the representative of the orthopedic department and medical staff to executive leadership, the Board of Governors, and hospital committees.
  • Ensure departmental operations and strategic plans are in sync with hospital and organizational objectives.
  • Oversee physician recruitment, credentialing, training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Manage clinical scheduling, patient flow, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with hospital administration and organizational leadership on departmental budgets, contracts, and expenditures.
  • Enhance relationships with local medical staff, sponsoring Shrine Temples, and the broader medical community.
  • Support medical staff governance, bylaws, hospital regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of medical records.
• Quality, Education, and Research:
  • Lead initiatives for departmental growth, quality improvement, and tracking clinical outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, therapists, social workers, and support staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Support the education of residents and fellows, continuing medical education, and interdisciplinary team development.
  • Encourage research and support the academic and scholarly endeavors of faculty and staff.
  • Address patient and family concerns and facilitate appropriate resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, regulatory, and hospital-specific requirements.
• Clinical Practice:
  • Maintain high standards of quality and competency within the physician's surgical specialty.
  • Balance personal surgical responsibilities with the leadership needs and overall objectives of the hospital.

Applicants should possess the following:

• An MD or DO from an accredited medical institution.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery.
• Fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery or pediatric spine surgery.
• Eight to ten years of clinical experience in orthopedic or spine surgery, ideally in a pediatric context.
• Five to seven years of progressive leadership experience in clinical operations, administration, or physician leadership.
• Eligibility for active, unrestricted medical licensure in Missouri.
• Eligibility for active DEA registration.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification.
• Eligibility for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges.
• Demonstrated understanding of healthcare operations, clinical quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and physician workforce management.
• A proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and enhancing clinical and operational excellence.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
• A commitment to pediatric healthcare, patient advocacy, and service excellence.
• A high degree of professionalism, discretion, and ethical integrity.
• Orthopedic candidates must be board-certified through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with subspecialty training in pediatric orthopedics.
• Neurosurgical candidates must be board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery with subspecialty training in pediatric neurosurgery.

• An advanced degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or a related field, such as an MBA, MHA, MPH, or CPE.
• Experience in academic medicine, research administration, or graduate medical education.

The annual salary range for this position is between $634,044.32 and $1,177,510.88, with compensation determined by relevant experience and departmental equity.
