Medical Technologist - Shiprock, NM

Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist

Place of Work (City/State): Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), Shiprock, New Mexico

Duration: 12-month Base Period + 2 Option Periods (up to 36 months total)

Start Date: October 1, 2026 / Upon Contract Award

Shift Schedule: Primarily night shifts 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts. Coverage may include Monday Friday, weekends, and Federal holidays. Shifts may vary based on workload and facility needs. 30-minute unpaid lunch.

How many shifts needed per month: 20-22 days per month

License : Valid state driver's license if required by the position. No separate state CLS license requirement is specified in the PWS.

Certifications:

  • Current ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent certification as CLS, MLS, or MT
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience needed: Minimum 1 year (12 months) of full-time Clinical Laboratory experience as a Generalist Medical Technologist performing CLIA high-complexity testing.

Special Skills needed:

  • Blood Bank, Microbiology, and Phlebotomy experience required
  • Hematology, Chemistry, Transfusion Medicine, and Urinalysis proficiency
  • Phlebotomy experience from neonates through geriatric patients
  • Proficiency with RPMS and Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Ability to operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers
  • Knowledge of Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), and laboratory safety requirements

Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis.
  • Process and accession specimens from clinics, Emergency Department, and inpatient units.
  • Perform phlebotomy for patients of all age groups.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Perform QC, calibration verification, and method comparison studies.
  • Review, verify, document, and report laboratory results and critical values.
  • Identify specimen or testing issues and perform appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow applicable IHS, TJC, CMS, and CLIA requirements.
  • Rotate through laboratory sections as required to support patient care.

Misc:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or another qualifying primary science required.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must complete required IHS orientation, security/background requirements, and Information Systems Security Awareness training.
  • Required health documentation includes applicable immunizations and TB screening.
  • Contractor is responsible for personal living accommodations; Government quarters may be available to qualified personnel at applicable rental rates.
