Job Title: Groundskeeper

Reports To: Grounds Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt, hourly

Job Type: Full-Time, 40hrs./week

Summary/objective

The Groundskeeper performs routine manual work to maintain campus grounds, ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive environment. Work is performed under general supervision and includes landscaping, seasonal maintenance, and upkeep of exterior campus areas.

Essential functions

• Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas
• Maintain lawn, gardens, trees, and other plants through the use of hand tools and powered equipment
• Remove litter, leaves, and debris to maintain clean campus grounds
• Maintain walkways, roadways, parking lots, and outdoor facilities
• Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, salting, and plowing and keep walkways, roads and parking lots safe for pedestrians and drivers
• Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers
• Perform minor maintenance and assist with general campus support tasks
• Assist other departments as needed.
• Other duties as assigned

Work conditions

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and snow
• Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, chemicals, and allergens
• Requires use of hand tools, power equipment, and motorized vehicles

Physical demands

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
• Ability to push and pull up to 20 pounds frequently and 21–50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist/turn, squat, crawl, reach over your shoulder, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Required education and experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (some college or military experience preferred.)
• Possess valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Previous experience using lawn, garden and snow removal equipment preferred
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods
• Basic knowledge of groundskeeping or landscaping preferred
• Ability to work alone with minimal direct supervision
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
