Details Med-Surg/Telemetry unit within a 140-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma hospital 24-bed unit with a census of 24 Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, post-op surgical patients, and common med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances RN staffing ratio of 1:4-6 with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts within a 6-week schedule No on-call requirements Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in-house, as well as SNU and ER for med-surg holds Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova glucose stat strips, cardiac telemetry monitoring, Dynamap portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, Glucommander, PCA pumps, and suction machines 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage with central telemetry monitoring support Requirements Active RN license (GA or Compact) BLS and BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) certifications required ACLS and Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele nursing experience EPIC EMR experience Skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, and titration to heart rate protocols Experience with IV insertion, central line management, and wound/post-op care Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills Care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education experience Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Additional Information Provide comprehensive med-surg/telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring, wound care, and post-op assessment Collaborate with a team including unit secretary, charge nurse, CNAs, and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist support CNAs assist with vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and transport (with a designated transport team) No IV or vascular access team on unit; nurses draw from central lines and most units use lab collect phlebotomy Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation Holiday coverage required for one shift each of Thanksgiving (or day after), Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day RTO requests require manager approval Navy scrubs required for RNs Free parking available on-site Unit culture described as busy with a strong team-based approach First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same rate as travelers Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position Clinical interview required prior to placement American Traveler Job ID P-733111.
