Details 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery acute care unit Patient ratio of 1:4 Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00) 13-week assignment with every other weekend required Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays with Christmas RTO unavailable Shift options may include 36 or 48 hour schedules Must adhere to facility float policy within scope of practice Requirements Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted) BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required Epic charting experience required BSN preferred Skills in IV therapy, blood product administration, central and PICC line management required Experience with neurological conditions including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury required Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols required Experience with respiratory care including oxygen administration and oral suctioning required Wound care and wound vac experience required Experience managing IV insulin protocols and PCA pumps required Additional Information Care for patients with neurosurgical, orthopedic trauma, and plastics surgical needs Provide pre- and post-operative neurosurgery care including feeding tube and surgical drain management Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed prior to offer Any planned vacation between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine start date Previous UVA permanent staff or travelers require 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days with UVA Health First-time travelers are welcome to apply American Traveler Job ID P-759826.
