Job Title: Millwright Mechanic

Job Description

This role supports a high-volume manufacturing plant by performing mechanical maintenance and welding on a wide range of heavy industrial equipment. You will ensure reliable operation of large production machinery such as extrusion presses, mills, furnaces, compressors, pumps, and associated hydraulic and pneumatic systems in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and overhaul on large production machinery including Level Winds, Breakdown Blocks, a 3000-ton extrusion press, Pilger Mill, annealers, air compressors, billet gas-fired furnaces, induction coils for heating billets, chillers, water pumps, and hydraulic and pneumatic pumps.

• Conduct stick welding and related welding tasks required to repair, modify, or fabricate components for production equipment.

• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.

• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose problems, plan repairs, and perform installations or adjustments.

• Perform preventive maintenance on machinery and support equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

• Inspect press brakes, pressure valves, pumps, and other high-pressure equipment and complete necessary maintenance and repairs.

• Work safely around older production machinery, following all plant safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.

• Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to prioritize work, support ongoing projects, and respond to breakdowns.

• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used in accordance with plant procedures.

• Support occasional electrical and electro-mechanical troubleshooting as needed, including interaction with motor drives, PLCs, and ladder logic under appropriate guidance.

• Work extended hours and occasional Saturdays as required to support production demands and project work.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a millwright mechanic or mechanical maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Strong mechanical maintenance skills with high mechanical aptitude for working on heavy industrial machinery.

• Proficiency in stick welding for repair and fabrication tasks.

• Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance, including pumps, valves, and actuators.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics.

• Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a production setting.

• Capability to work safely and effectively in a non-climate-controlled facility around large, moving equipment.

• Physical ability to work long hours, stand for extended periods, and perform hands-on maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on older production machinery and legacy equipment.

• Background in maintaining press brakes, pressure valves with high PSI, and industrial pumps.

• Exposure to electro-mechanical maintenance, including basic electrical repair in an industrial environment.

• Familiarity with electrical maintenance concepts such as ladder logic, motor drives, PLC programming, and PLC troubleshooting.

• Experience in industrial assembly and equipment installation.

• Comfort working on multiple shifts and adapting to changing production priorities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing plant that houses large industrial equipment, including Level Winds, Breakdown Blocks, a 3000-ton extrusion press, Pilger Mill, annealers, air compressors, billet gas-fired furnaces, induction coils for heating billets, chillers, water pumps, and hydraulic and pneumatic pumps. Work is performed on rotating shifts: 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime on Saturdays as needed. New hires train and work on day shift for approximately 6–8 weeks before transitioning to their assigned off-shift. The environment is hands-on, industrial, and fast-paced, requiring comfort with heavy machinery, varying temperatures, and extended periods on your feet.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.50 - $26.50/hr.
