Computed Tomography Technologist

Coordinates and participates in all computerized tomography scanning procedures. Sets up, monitors, and operates complex computerized equipment for diagnostic purposes. Essential functions and responsibilities include setting up and monitoring computer operation of CT equipment per patient, transferring and positioning patients utilizing accepted standards of safety and proper lifting techniques, applying immobilization devices as necessary, providing required patient identification, obtaining vital information from patients concerning known allergies and pertinent medical history, properly preparing and injecting contrast media intravenously into appropriate patients as needed for examination, making and developing images for the permanent file of each patient, recording all studies on magnetic tape for future reference, organizing daily patient schedule in cooperation with workroom technician, maintaining image quality following department guidelines, conducting daily calibration and quality control of equipment following department guidelines, assuring proper repair of equipment is performed, following protocols for imaging procedures, responsible for electronic/digital image capture, storage, transfer, and copy, monitoring patients for allergic reactions and taking proper action as needed, assisting with emergency medical situations, including providing basic CPR, providing protection to self and patients in accordance with current prescribed safety standards and regulations, maintaining cleanliness of the working environment, assuring supplies are maintained within department inventory levels, instructing new personnel as needed, assisting radiologists and other physician specialists in the performance of specialized radiological procedures in accordance with department standards, reviewing and recording pertinent patient history and supportive clinical data to aid in the diagnosis of patients, participating in departmental quality assessments and continuous quality improvement opportunities, assisting in goal setting, collecting and evaluating data, implementing action plans, and related applications.
