Director of Laboratory Services E-Directors Full-Time Management Hialeah, FL, US Position Summary The Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall administrative, operational, and personnel management of the Laboratory Department at Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus. The Director provides leadership and oversight of daily laboratory operations to ensure timely, accurate, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services in support of patient care. The Laboratory Director oversees laboratory staffing, workflow, quality assurance, regulatory readiness, employee competency, departmental policies and procedures, equipment and supply management, budgeting, productivity, and performance improvement activities. The position works collaboratively with Hospital Administration, the designated CLIA Laboratory Director/Medical Director, medical staff, nursing leadership, Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Quality, and other hospital departments to ensure laboratory services meet applicable hospital, state, federal, and accreditation requirements. Education Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in: Medical Technology; Medical Laboratory Science; Clinical Laboratory Science; Biological Science; Chemical Science; or another related field that satisfies applicable Florida clinical laboratory personnel requirements. Preferred: Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field. Licensure Required: Current and unrestricted Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license issued through the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel/Florida Department of Health. Supervisor license must include the specialty or specialties necessary to appropriately oversee the laboratory services assigned to the position. Current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license, as applicable to the individual's licensure pathway and duties. All required licenses must remain active and in good standing throughout employment. Certification Preferred: National certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist through an appropriately recognized certifying organization, such as: MLS(ASCP) / MT(ASCP) MT(AMT) or another nationally recognized laboratory certification appropriate to the candidate's qualifications. Experience Required: Minimum five (5) years of progressive clinical laboratory experience . Minimum two (2) years of laboratory supervisory or management experience . Demonstrated experience supervising clinical laboratory personnel and laboratory operations. Experience with quality control, quality assurance, proficiency testing, competency assessment, laboratory policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance. Preferred: Three (3) or more years of laboratory management or director-level experience. Previous leadership experience within an acute-care hospital laboratory . Experience overseeing multiple laboratory disciplines. Experience preparing for CLIA, Joint Commission, AHCA, CAP, or other applicable regulatory/accreditation surveys . Experience managing laboratory staffing, budgeting, productivity, supplies, and equipment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should possess: Extensive knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and practices. Strong knowledge of applicable laboratory regulations and accreditation standards. Knowledge of CLIA requirements and Florida clinical laboratory personnel regulations. Strong knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles. Understanding of proficiency testing and employee competency requirements. Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection-prevention practices. Strong leadership, supervisory, and employee-development skills. Ability to manage laboratory staffing and workflow in a hospital environment. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to analyze laboratory performance and implement corrective actions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with physicians, nursing leadership, hospital administration, employees, vendors, and regulatory representatives. Ability to prioritize multiple operational and regulatory responsibilities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and patient safety.
