Orientation Leader

Orientation Leaders are primarily responsible for welcoming new students and their families to campus, facilitating their transition into college life by providing information about campus resources, leading small group discussions, organizing activities, and serving as positive role models, all while aiming to create a welcoming and engaging orientation experience.

Strong communication skills: The ability to clearly explain information, lead group discussions and actively listen to student concerns.

Leadership abilities: Develop leadership skills by guiding new students, collaborating with peers, and coordinating orientation events.

Organizational skills: Improve organizational skills, manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate professionalism while balancing responsibilities and adhering to campus policies.

Cultural awareness and sensitivity: Respect diverse backgrounds and experiences of new students.

Help foster connections among new students and to the Chaminade community

Help new students become familiar with campus resources, facilities, and processes.

Welcome new students and families/guests.

Lead sessions with your Orientation Group: building relationships, showing technology/software, etc.

Serve as a positive role model for other Orientation Leaders and new students.

Facilitate small and large group activities as needed, assisting with Orientation-wide programming and events.

Provide ideas, leadership, and enthusiasm for orientation days and events leading up to the start of the academic semester.

Guide students as they navigate difficult transitions: decision-making, homesickness, unknowns, etc.

Participate in critical evaluations and provide feedback for future Orientation improvements.

Attend training sessions, including Title IX training (see training schedule below).

Minimum

Current and full-time day undergraduate student with Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Completed a minimum of 12 Chaminade University of Honolulu credit at the time of application

Preferred

Student should maintain a current GPA of at least 2.50

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Organized with meticulous attention to detail

Ability to prioritize work and resources

Ability to meet deadlines

Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality

High integrity and ethical standards

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.

Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
