Day-to-Day:

The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides high-quality, patient-centered clinical support within a fast-paced surgical specialty clinic. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or provider, this role supports pre-operative, peri-procedural, and post-operative care to ensure safe, efficient, and coordinated patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

• Room patients and obtain/document vital signs, medical history, allergies, and surgical-specific information
• Perform medication reconciliation, with attention to perioperative medications (e.g., anticoagulants, antibiotics)
• Administer medications, injections, and immunizations within scope of practice
• Perform clinical tasks such as wound care, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and specimen collection

Surgical & Procedure Support

• Assist providers during in-clinic surgical procedures (e.g., biopsies, excisions, minor procedures)
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields and procedure rooms
• Ensure proper instrument setup, supply availability, and room turnover
• Act as chaperone during exams and procedures as needed

Pre- & Post-Operative Support

• Provide pre-operative patient preparation, including education and checklist verification
• Deliver standardized post-operative instructions (wound care, activity restrictions, follow-up care)
• Monitor patients for complications and escalate concerns to RN or provider

Patient Education & Communication

• Reinforce provider care plans and surgical instructions using teach-back methods
• Manage inbound/outbound patient calls and messages using ambulatory protocols
• Provide education on medications, procedures, and recovery expectations

Care Coordination & Documentation

• Document all patient care activities in the EMR (e.g., Epic)
• Coordinate follow-ups, referrals, and diagnostic testing
• Partner with providers, RNs, and surgical teams to ensure seamless care delivery
