Senior Database Engineer

Senior AWS Database EngineerCGI is seeking a Senior AWS Database Engineer to support enterprise database platforms and cloud hosted applications within a large scale financial services environment. This role will provide hands on administration and engineering support across Oracle, PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS, Aurora, and Redshift, with a strong focus on database reliability, performance, migrations, and production operations. This position is required in one of the following locations: Lafayette, LA, Knoxville, TN, Columbia, SC, Birmingham, ALThe engineer will support database provisioning, upgrades, patching, backup and recovery, HA/DR, performance tuning, and SQL optimization. Responsibilities also include AWS database migrations, database connectivity for ECS/Fargate applications, capacity and cost optimization, and troubleshooting complex production issues. The position requires close coordination with application, cloud, and DevOps teams and active participation in sprint planning, technical reviews, production readiness activities, and operational support.Required qualifications to be successful in this role include: 5+ years of hands on database administration experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL, including AWS hosted database environments. Experience administering and supporting Amazon RDS and Aurora, including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, and patching. Experience with Amazon Redshift administration and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery (HA/DR) practices. Hands on experience with database performance tuning, SQL optimization, capacity management, and production troubleshooting. Experience performing or supporting database migrations using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS). Experience supporting database connectivity and configuration for applications running on Amazon ECS/Fargate. Ability to assess database sizing, capacity, performance, and AWS cost optimization opportunities. Strong understanding of database security, access controls, availability, and operational best practices. Experience working in Agile/Scrum and Kanban environments, supporting planned development work as well as incidents, maintenance, and operational requests. Strong troubleshooting and communication skills with the ability to coordinate across application, cloud, DevOps, and database teams. Experience supporting production databases in financial services or another highly regulated enterprise environment is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.Together, as owners, let's turn meaningful insights into action.
