ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (salary range - $58,936.23 - $69,066.51 annually):
SCOPE OF WORK:
To educate students and develop curricula in biotechnology and biofabrication contributing to the goals and operations of the Center for Biofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing. This position shall report to the Chairperson of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Teaches a variety of courses and develops curricula in the areas of biotechnology and biofabrication, with a focus on aligning academic programs with workforce training needs, industry standards, and the objectives of the Center for Biofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing.
- Demonstrates teaching effectiveness through the development of instructional materials that comply with established course content, integrate theory with practical applications in biotechnology and biofabrication, clearly define course goals, observe program and institutional accreditation standards, promote critical thinking and technical skills, and respond to diverse academic and industry needs aligned with the Center’s objectives.
- Maintains accessibility and availability to assist students with their academic and career development needs and advises individuals or groups of students in academic matters related to biotechnology and biofabrication. Exercises professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel.
- Supervises student learning activities and academic progress, maintaining accurate records of student progress and accomplishments. Consults with and interprets these records for students and provides timely feedback to support their learning and development in the biofabrication and biotechnology fields. Provides guidance to prepare students for careers in manufacturing and related industries.
- Assists with the selection, placement, and follow-up of students, facilitating connections with industry partners to enhance career readiness, internship opportunities, and workforce placement in the biofabrication field fostering industry collaboration to support student outcomes.
- Coordinates departmental activities and operations by developing credit and non-credit programs and/or courses within the Center, sharing teaching and learning methodologies with peers, serving as an academic resource for faculty, cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with business and industry in the biotechnology and advanced manufacturing sectors, and providing leadership in the development of articulation initiatives.
- Encourages interdisciplinary engagement by collaborating with faculty across disciplines within the Center for Biofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing, ensuring the integration of biotechnology and biofabrication curricula with fields such as manufacturing and engineering, computer and data science, health sciences, and other related areas to provide a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary educational experience that aligns with workforce needs.
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of college-sponsored recruitment and retention activities, including career and job fairs, student orientations, registrations, and award ceremonies, and/or advising student activity groups, as assigned, to promote the Center’s initiatives.
- Engages in professional activities related to biotechnology and biofabrication that connect the college with the wider community by serving on college or system teams or participating in community-sponsored events, as assigned, and representing the Center in professional forums.
- Remains technologically and pedagogically current within the specialized fields of biotechnology and biofabrication through participation in relevant professional associations, education, and training activities. Utilizes appropriate instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching effectiveness and college operations/communications.
- Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations, demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
- Complies with all system, college, campus, state, and federal rules and regulations in the execution of responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in biological science. Possession of a master's degree in education shall require twelve (12) graduate credits in a subject area closely related to biological science and a bachelor's degree in a subject area closely related to biological science.
Experience: Five (5) years of teaching experience in health, biological sciences or five (5) years of business or industry experience directly related to the field of biological science.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of teaching methods and materials, problems and subject matter as relates to course instruction. Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and equipment in subjects being taught. Knowledge of educational standards and procedures. Ability to evaluate student progress and provide guidance to both students and instructors. Ability to work with and secure the cooperation of others. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of teaching methods, use of instructional materials and the organization of subject matter into effective teaching units in technology or other specialized programs. Complete knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and equipment in subjects being taught. Ability to evaluate student progress and provide guidance to both students and instructors. Ability to supervise professional instructional staff and collaborate in development of programs, policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively with businesses and community organizations. Ability to originate and implement new programs and to improve existing programs. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
