Job summary: The Communications Intern at Sutherland Institute will gain hands-on experience in strategic supporting the organization's mission to advance public policy solutions. This internship provides an develop professional writing, digital communications, media relations, and content management skills nonprofit environment. The intern will work closely with the communications team on projects that policymakers, media, donors, and the public. Responsibilities Draft and schedule social media content for X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram that the Institute's voice and strategic priorities. Upload and publish content to the Sutherland Institute website, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, weekly emails, and other external communications. Learn best practices for media relations by helping identify, contact, and build relationships with the press. Support communications campaigns by conducting research, proofreading content, and assisting projects as needed. Use artificial intelligence tools responsibly and effectively to support communications projects maintaining accuracy, quality, and organizational standards. Throughout the internship, the Communications Intern will develop and refine the following professional skills: Writing engaging social media copy for multiple platforms. Publishing and managing website content. Formatting and preparing professional email communications. Writing press releases and understanding the fundamentals of media outreach and media relations. Using AI as a practical workplace tool to enhance productivity while applying sound editorial critical thinking. Strengthening written communication, attention to detail, project management, and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities. Interest in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, public policy, or a related field. Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools. Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and contribute in a collaborative team environment. Experience with content management systems, email marketing platforms, or graphic design tools is but not required.
