Position Summary
The Director of Student Conduct and Compliance is responsible for administering the College’s Student Code of Conduct and providing leadership in matters involving student behavior. This position is housed in the CT State Community College Central Office in New Britain and serves as a central liaison to campus leaders, faculty, staff, and College officials regarding student conduct issues, balancing developmental and educational approaches with compliance to state, federal, and institutional policy. The Director of Student Conduct and Compliance will serve as a senior conduct officer playing a vital role in fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments across all Connecticut State Community College campuses.
In addition, this role supports the specialized needs of the Students of Responsibility (SOR) population. As the SOR Council evolves, the Director of Student Conduct and Compliance provides coordination and leadership from a statewide perspective to ensure consistency, equity, and responsiveness in addressing emerging challenges that extend beyond individual campus concerns.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Conduct and Compliance is responsible for providing guidance to campus-based conduct staff, graduate assistants, or interns as needed through effective performance in these essential duties:
Key responsibilities include:- Acts as the designee of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs in administering all aspects of student conduct, including case investigation, adjudication, and resolution of student discipline matters in accordance with Board of Regents and College policies as well as applicable laws.
- Serves as a subject matter resource on student conduct, behavioral intervention, and legal issues impacting students, advising faculty and staff on effective and appropriate strategies for addressing misconduct.
- Partners with CARE Teams across CT State, working within a multidisciplinary framework to support students’ holistic needs, address behavioral concerns, and contribute to threat assessment and intervention strategies.
- Provides consultation on legal issues related to student conduct and recommends appropriate institutional responses.
- Serves as a designee of the College Title IX Officer in matters where student conduct intersects with Title IX requirements.
- Functions as a liaison with CT State Campus Police and external agencies regarding student conduct cases, investigations, and risk management.
- Supports the College’s response to lawsuits and legal actions related to student conduct.
- Administers the Academic Misconduct Policy as developed and approved by the College Senate, ensuring consistency in process and fairness in outcomes.
- In collaboration with CT State Central Office and campus leadership, develops and implements training, educational programs, and manages conduct technology platforms designed to raise awareness of student conduct expectations and strategies for preventing disruptive or harmful behaviors.
- Facilitates professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and student leaders on topics related to conduct, restorative practices, and student well-being.
- Prepares and maintains comprehensive reports, case analyses, and trend data to assess the effectiveness of student conduct processes, identify emerging needs, and recommend improvements to policies and practices.
- Conducts audits and assessments of campus-level conduct processes to ensure compliance, consistency, and alignment with systemwide priorities.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
- Service on assigned committees and task forces
- Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or a closely related field together with three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience with campus student conduct systems in higher education that includes one (1) or more years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in addressing issues of cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion as they relate to student conduct.
- Training and experience in responding to sexual misconduct, Title IX, alcohol and substance abuse, and behavioral health concerns.
- Familiarity with higher education law and legal issues affecting student affairs.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, fairness, and professionalism.
- Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise administering higher education student conduct processes, including investigations, case management, hearings, adjudication, and resolution of complex student behavioral matters.
- Knowledge of higher education law and compliance requirements, including Title IX, sexual misconduct, the Clery Act, and other student affairs-related legal issues.
- Experience coordinating behavioral intervention, CARE Teams, threat assessment, multidisciplinary responses to student concerns, and training hearing bodies and conduct officers.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging student conduct case management systems (e.g., Maxient, Symplicity, or similar platforms) to enhance operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, support data analysis, and improve student conduct processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive student conduct practices.
- Strong analytical, communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills, with the ability to provide consultation, training, and strategic guidance across a complex, multi-campus institution.
