Overview New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), offers an integrated approach to education, clinical care, and research. It includes eight schools, a behavioral health network, and five research centers focusing on cancer, neuroscience, advanced biotechnology, environmental health, and health policy. Posting Summary Rutgers University seeks a Patient Navigator in the Department of Infectious Disease within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). The primary purpose of the role is to provide clinic and community-based HIV, STI testing, and case‑management services to persons with or at risk for HIV infection. This includes biopsychosocial assessment, care‑plan development, and navigation of social services and treatment adherence. The position involves clinical settings and a mobile health unit, with required weekend and evening hours. Key Responsibilities Conduct confidential assessments for clients living with HIV and those referred for PrEP services, determining prevention needs and planning services. Provide HIV and STI pre‑ and post‑test counseling in accordance with NJ Department of Health and CDC guidelines, documenting all interactions. Offer counseling and testing services at the clinic, outside events, and on the mobile health unit. Perform daily and weekly quality controls (e.g., temperature checks, control procedures). Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of policies and procedures related to all aspects of STI and HIV counseling and testing. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Human Services plus at least two (2) years of full‑time professional experience with HIV/AIDS. NJ certification as an HIV Counselor. Valid driver’s license. Eligibility to drive a mobile unit and completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Training Course. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, and Word. Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Willingness to work varied schedules, including weekends and evenings. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of experience preferred. Case‑management experience and Phlebotomy certification preferred. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred.
