Job Summary Johnson Controls is seeking an Equipment Systems Application Engineer to support the construction sales team by assisting with pre‑ and post‑sales activities on building systems and equipment project opportunities. Post‑sales activities involve equipment project execution that is profitable, accurate, on‑time, within the scope of the contract, and aligned with customer expectations. Develop and provide detailed engineering information and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operating, and installation requirements to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls service, and subcontractors. Collaborate with the sales team to balance customer satisfaction and project financial results during pre‑sale and post‑sale duties. Provide technical support, selections, and limited estimating support to Account Executives during design or proposal phases. Assist in developing the commercial rationale for conceptual solutions and the detailed cost estimate and scope of work for assigned projects in conjunction with Sales. Prepare proposals, quote letters, and other customer communication documents, including takeoffs, specification reviews, and RFQ/RFI issuance. Support Account Executives in becoming basis of design through timely selections, specifications, sequences, drawings, and document reviews. Manage project Profit and Loss and customer satisfaction for all assigned projects, using the Johnson Controls equipment order execution process. Coordinate backlog execution, schedule, and forecast of equipment projects up to two years in advance. Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop and provide engineered equipment submittals in compliance with contract, drawing, site coordination, and installation requirements. Follow standardized submittal generation guidelines for equipment submittals, including final coil selection, fan selection, chiller performance verification, and configuration options. Verify approved equipment submittals and positive configuration acceptance by the installing contractor before releasing equipment for fabrication. Evaluate the contractual scope of supply and the impact of client‑issued bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes. Coordinate project schedule with customers to ensure timely release of equipment and to increase appropriate additional change orders. Prepare and negotiate final settlement prices and customer acceptance resulting from scope of supply changes or change orders. Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site coordination requirements. Generate technical content for Purchase Orders for field‑purchased materials and equipment. Select, order, and track delivery of materials and equipment; coordinate shipping processes to meet factory and project schedules. Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management as required. Review vendor invoices for technical and commercial compliance before approving payment. Coordinate post‑shipment services, including startup initiation and solutions to delivery or scope omission problems. Visit customer sites to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment aligns with Johnson Controls, customer, and owner expectations. Maintain project documentation compliance with contract requirements and Johnson Controls standards. Answer engineered equipment and controls application questions from potential customers and sales channels. Build and maintain long‑term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors. Attend job progress meetings as required and coordinate customer‑training requirements with local service. Work with Customer Operations Associates to address billing and collections issues, ensuring Johnson Controls receives payment in full. Qualifications Required bachelor’s degree in engineering. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio), Adobe Writer, and basic Windows operating environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Effective interpersonal communication with internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage many projects professionally and cooperatively. U.S. citizen or permanent resident (no sponsorship). Compensation Hiring salary range: $67,900–$85,000.
