Job Summary

The Custodian performs basic and routine custodial, grounds maintenance or general laborer work.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are typical for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

1. Clean restrooms, basins, stools, urinals, and other sanitary facilities daily.
2. Stock dispensers with paper towel, tissue and other paper products.
3. Maintain outside areas by sweeping, hosing off walkways, and picking up litter.
4. Vacuum and clean carpets as needed.
5. Sweep and mop daily, strip off old wax, applies new wax, polishes floor with electric buffer.
6. Empty ashtrays and trash receptacles daily.
7. Dust office desks, chairs, and reception area.
8. Clean walls, windows, doors, and shelves.
9. May assist in moving furniture and other equipment.
10. Order supplies and equipment as authorized.
11. Make sure buildings are secure before leaving.
12. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Applicable tools and equipment utilized in assigned area of responsibility;
• Basic custodial, equipment, building or grounds maintenance practices;
• Safe work practices;
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations;
• Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

Skills and Abilities:

• Exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of surfaces;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public;
• Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
• Follow verbal and written instruction;
• Operate powered equipment;
• Work out doors under varying weather conditions;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

Education, Certifications and Experience Required

Custodian I High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred; no specific experience is required.

OR

Custodian II High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred, plus:

• Must have worked for the Tribe, as a custodian, for at least one year with no written warnings or disciplinary actions in the prior twelve (12) months;
• Must have successfully completed Blood Borne Pathogens and Universal Precautions Training;
• Must have completed HIPAA Certification Training within the last twelve (12) months;
• Must demonstrate the ability to operate floor cleaning equipment safely;
• Must demonstrate a knowledge of cleaning protocols to meet Health Facility standards.

Special Requirements:

• A valid Arizona Driver's License
• This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
• Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in removal from this position.
