Licensed Dental Assistant

Lake Superior Community Health Center (LSCHC) is seeking a licensed dental assistant at the Superior, WI and Duluth, MN offices. The licensed dental assistant assists the dentist during examination and treatment of patients.  The dental assistant is responsible for patient preparation, sterilization and disinfection of instruments, instrument tray set up, and preparation of dental materials.

• Pay range: $24.00-$29.04

Job Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate
• Effective oral and written communication skills

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures
• Knowledge of routine office practices
• Ability to sterilize and care for instruments and equipment
• Ability to chart mouth and teeth
• Ability to alleviate client’s anxieties and promote trust and confidence
• Computer and Microsoft Office software knowledge

Responsibilities:

• Assists dentists by serving as chair-side assistant
  • Prepares operatory for client treatment
  • Passes instruments
  • Performs other routine tasks in care of the client as directed by the dentist
  • Provides diagnostic aids to the dentist
  • Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
• Performs clinical supportive functions
  • Prepare client ensuring client feels comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
  • Instruct client on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g. tooth brushing, flossing)
  • Dismisses client by explaining follow-up needed as directed by dentist
• Maintains dental clinical records
  • Chart mouth and teeth
• Technical and laboratory skills
  • Mixes amalgam and synthetic fillings material according to instructions
  • Exposes and processes diagnostic x-rays and Digital x-rays
  • Pours, trims and polishes casts
  • Maintain dental equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions and department policy
  • EHR Compliant
  • Oils & cleans equipment
  • Sterilizes reusable dental instruments and equipment
  • Chair/operatory sterilization and set up
  • Insures proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials, ie- amalgam separator & other items
  • Maintains compliance with department directives and protocols relative to infection control, exposure control and safety
  • Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles list of items needed for inventory control and ordering purposes
• Miscellaneous Duties
  • Responsible for personal compliance with LSCHC
  • Travel between sites is required for coverage purposes
  • Maintains client confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

Typical Working Conditions:

• Prolonged sitting and/or standing
• Physical movement and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination performed on a repetitive basis
• Work under stressful conditions may be required
• Frequent exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered

Education/licensure/registration:

• Active Registered Dental Assistant License
• Current CPR (BLS) required
