Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care in an ambulatory cardiology setting. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching of patients and family members. Effectively communicates with the healthcare team and demonstrates clinical competence in cardiology nursing practice.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Delivers direct patient care to ambulatory cardiology patients, including assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of cardiac status and vital signs
• Performs and assists with electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation and other diagnostic procedures as appropriate
• Provides comprehensive patient and family education regarding cardiac conditions, medications, lifestyle modifications, and disease management
• Manages patient care documentation, including electronic health records (EHR), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory standards
• Triages patients, prioritizes care needs, and manages patient flow within the ambulatory cardiology clinic
• Collaborates with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
• Administers medications and educates patients on medication compliance, side effects, and therapeutic goals
• Advocates for patient needs and ensures culturally sensitive, compassionate care delivery
• Maintains current clinical knowledge in cardiology specialty through continuing education and professional development
• Adheres to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements specific to ambulatory care settings
• Works independently and in collaboration with principal investigators when appropriate for research initiatives
• Coordinates referrals and follow-up care to ensure continuity of patient treatment

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

· Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred

· Successful completion of Henry Ford Ambulatory Care orientation program

· Demonstrated current clinical knowledge in cardiology specialty

· Advanced clinical knowledge and analytical competency to develop and implement evidence-based nursing care plans

· Demonstrated proficiency in delivering comprehensive professional nursing services across diverse patient populations

· Demonstrated competency in professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members

· Prior clinical experience in cardiology or related specialty strongly preferred

· Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

· Current, valid licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse

· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification in accordance with Henry Ford Health policy requirements

· Specialty certification required when mandated by Michigan State regulatory standards or established community practice standards (e.g., Certified Cardiology Nurse [CCN] or equivalent)
