Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education (K-12) required
• Background in teaching students with multiple disabilities, including visual impairment, highly valued
• Mastery of IEP development, instructional differentiation, and accessible curriculum adaptation
• Familiarity with assistive technologies (screen readers, braille devices, magnification tools)
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities
• Physical ability to assist students with mobility needs—including lifting up to 50 pounds—and to navigate therapy and recreation environments
• Strong organizational skills for documentation, progress tracking, and compliance reporting

Core Responsibilities:

• Create and implement effective, individualized instructional plans (IEPs) and conduct required assessments
• Adapt curricular materials and lessons into accessible formats, utilizing assistive technology as needed
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team and actively involve families in the planning process
• Serve as instructional leader for classroom aides and related services providers
• Collect and analyze data on student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
• Foster a respectful, positive classroom culture that prioritizes social, emotional, and behavioral growth
• Participate in ongoing professional development, sharing expertise with colleagues

In this long-term substitute role (up to 2 years), you’ll be eligible for school-supported advancement, including assistance toward a Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification through a respected local program. The position aligns with a 36-hour work week, following a 189-day school year schedule, and the annual salary reflects your qualifications and experience.
