The unit participates in a team nursing model where RNs, LPNs, and PCTs work together to care for a group of patients. The goal of this model is to distribute the workload while enhancing patient care. Nurses may function in either team nursing or primary nursing based on unit needs. The facility is a level 1 trauma center. Common patient diagnoses include traumatic hip fractures, elective spine surgeries, and other orthopedic injuries. Nurses will provide pre and post-surgical orthopedic care, which includes monitoring heart rates, managing drains, and administering medications. Nurses must also be prepared to provide care to any medical-surgical patient as needed. The unit is equipped to handle telemetry and drip management. Navy blue scrubs are required. Time off requests must be submitted with initial applications. No additional time off will be considered after an offer is made. It is expected that candidates are available to work every other weekend and holiday. Candidates must be comfortable floating to various nursing areas within the healthcare facility as needed. Travelers may be assigned to different specialties if census levels require it. All candidates must have NIH stroke certification or be willing to complete the training upon hiring. Specific skills required include blood product administration, insulin management, and telemetry monitoring.
