Role Description Laing Companies is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the development of affordable housing projects from site identification and entitlements through construction close-out and lease-up. This is a full-time role based in Los Angeles, California. The successful candidate will work directly with senior leadership and gain meaningful exposure to all aspects of the development process, including acquisitions, entitlements, financing, design, construction, and project delivery. Responsibilities Coordinate acquisition and due diligence: develop preliminary feasibility analyses for development opportunities, conduct and review preliminary due diligence, assist with acquisition efforts and early-stage project evaluation, participate in development strategy and project conceptualization, and coordinate entitlement and land use approval processes Financial modeling and feasibility: develop and update proformas; review financial statements, environmental reports, market studies, appraisals, and other third-party reports; evaluate project feasibility and identify development risks and opportunities Secure financing: prepare financing applications (LIHTC, HCD, AHP, local, and other programs); work with public agencies, conventional lenders, and investors to secure predevelopment, construction and permanent financing; assist with public agency and lender compliance requirements Coordinate project design: ensure design and specifications meet long-term operational needs; work with general contractor to estimate project costs and ensure design stays within budget Construction administration: participate in weekly Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings, track construction progress, and manage the monthly construction draw process Stakeholder and project coordination: maintain strong working relationships with public agencies, community stakeholders, consultants, lenders, investors, and development partners; prepare presentations, reports, meeting materials, and project updates; support community engagement and public approval processes as needed Firm operations: support day-to-day operations and project related administrative tasks as needed to move deals forward Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Real Estate Development, Urban Planning, Business, Public Policy, or a related field is preferred Industry passion: Demonstrated interest in affordable housing, community development, real estate, business, or urban issues through academic, professional, or other relevant experience Technical skills: Strong Excel skills; Google Workspace and Microsoft Office proficiency Communication and collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with public agencies, consultants, community stakeholders, lenders, and development partners Execution: Strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Mindset: Self-starter who can work independently while collaborating effectively Location: Ability to work primarily in-office in Los Angeles (4 days/week). In-person collaboration is core to how we develop projects, mentor team members, and serve our partners.
