Lead Data Engineer

The platform team is responsible for executing the vision and achieving the goals of our three core lines of business: Indexing, Digital Distribution, and Data & Analytics. Made up of developers, data engineers, designers, and project managers, the platform team is the engine that drives forward the technical implementation of VettaFi’s offerings. This role will drive technical excellence in data engineering, statistical techniques, and domain-specific applications. The role will be grounded in and powered by the digital footprint that VettaFi has, including web domains like ETFdb.com, AdvisorPerspectives.com, and VettaFi.com, and will impact the millions of investors these domains attract on a consistent basis. Responsibilities Architectural Leadership: Lead the technical direction of the data engineering function, including input on infrastructure, warehousing, and tooling. Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest vast amounts of financial and user data from various sources into the data warehouse. Infrastructure Optimization: Leverage and optimize the data warehouse to support efficient querying and analytics. Data Quality & Governance: Implement automated monitoring, alerting, and testing to ensure data accuracy, freshness, and consistency. Collaboration: Partner with the platform team to productionalize models and integrate data streams into user-facing products; ideate and advocate for projects involving novel applications of data. Mentorship: Review and approve pull requests, enforce coding standards, and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team’s technical proficiency. Job Requirements A degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in data engineering, backend software engineering, or a related field. Expert-level SQL: Ability to write complex, highly optimized queries. Strong Python: Proficiency in writing robust, production-grade code for data orchestration. Experience with cloud data warehouses such as AWS Redshift and orchestration tools. Well-practiced communication skills, capable of translating complex architectural concepts into non-technical terms for stakeholders. A hands-on self-starter who takes ownership of the platform’s reliability. Strong people leadership experience with a collaborative, team-oriented approach; you build others up and prioritize the team's success over personal accolades. Additional Information Salary Range: 125,000/year - 140,000/year USD.
