Academic Program Specialist
The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented Academic Program Specialist to support multiple research laboratories and world-renowned investigators. In this dynamic role, you will serve as the operational backbone of our research enterprise coordinating laboratory operations, purchasing, equipment management, regulatory compliance, student employee supervision, and administrative support that keeps innovative research moving forward. This position is full or part-time, 80%-100%
This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
- May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
- Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
- Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews

The University of Wisconsin Cellular and Molecular Arrhythmia Research Program (CMARP) is a multi-investigator research group that focuses on the role of cardiac ion channels in cardiac physiology, pharmacology and disease. Our work seeks to provide new understanding and therapies for inherited and acquired forms of arrhythmia and heart failure syndromes.
The starting salary/hourly wage for the position is $ 44,000 annually but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Effective July 1, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires that positions earning less than $43,888 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime. Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at July 1, 2024 ($43,888 annually), they will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.

- Experience in laboratory operations and management
