Lineman Job Summary: This position performs advanced and skilled work for transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations, and related equipment owned and operated by Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. The employee is supervised by the Crew Chief or Crew Leader. Essential Job Functions Construct and maintain power lines: Installs, removes, inspects and maintains both overhead and underground lines and equipment. Switching operations: Performs switching operations on energized and de‑energized lines and equipment, utilizing the Electric Systems Control Manual, Universal Armament Interface system and all safety precautions. Troubleshooting and outage restoration: Works independently or with others to systematically troubleshoot lines and equipment to restore electric service. Operation of equipment: Operates construction equipment such as line trucks, bucket trucks, trenchers and other equipment as required, complying with all traffic laws and safety rules. Use and care of tools and equipment: Responsible for the use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials, keeping them clean and reporting needed repairs, and using proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment. Supervision as required: Provides supervision for crew members when the Crew Leader or another supervisor is absent. Safety: Practices safe work habits and follows the Cooperative Safety Manual. Other essential duties: Performs other duties as required to benefit the cooperative and its members, including responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations. Other Job Duties Completes paperwork associated with job duties in a neat and timely manner. Reports any hazards or damage to lines or equipment observed. Assists in training apprentice linemen and other personnel in job‑related operations. Minimum Training and Experience This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus completion of Clay Electric's Lineworker Development Training Program, or an equivalent program, and four (4) years of experience in an electric distribution utility, preferably through the progression of apprentice lineman work. This position requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver’s license or a Florida Class A restricted commercial driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of overhead line construction, underground construction, maintenance and service practices for various electric plant facilities. Basic knowledge of terms and conditions of service, applicable electric codes and Clay Electric drawings and specifications, safety rules, stringing charts and related publications. Ability to read and understand Clay Electric’s mapping system using a personal computer, iPad or other company‑issued electronic device used in the field. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in the field. This position requires after‑hours work due to workload and/or emergency situations. This position requires the ability to perform on‑call and/or backup duties. These assignments will be made at the discretion of the supervisor and are considered part of accepting this position. Employees in this position shall comply with Policy 110 – “Residence Required in Districts and Operations Department”. Physical Requirements and Work Environment May need to lift and carry between 51 and 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb (for above‑ground work only) and reach above and below shoulder level. Must be able to use hands for repetitive actions such as simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fingering. Work may involve exposure to cold, heat, wet/humid conditions, noise/vibration, hazards, dust, and fumes. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Definitions Simple Grasping – Apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Pushing – Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Pulling – Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Fingering – Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
