JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with admission process by taking initial vital signs, measurements, and weights; orienting patient/family to unit and hospital facilities; documenting on appropriate forms per unit standards. Delivers patient care promptly and accurately in accordance with unit standards, policies, and patient’s plan of care; contributes relevant information to the RN; maintains confidentiality and supports the Patient Bill of Rights; participates in meetings and reinforces patient education; provides emotional support to patients and families. Assists physician/provider and/or nurse with procedures such as lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, central line insertion, application of dressings, urinary catheterization, etc.; demonstrates sterile technique and performs EKGs as needed. Monitors and records patient intake and output; reports changes in vital signs, level of consciousness, weight, mobility status, comfort level, feeding pattern, or any unusual occurrences to the RN promptly. Assists patients with routine activities of daily living—feeding, bathing, ambulating, and skin care—while documenting appropriately; demonstrates effective interpersonal skills appropriate to patients’ age, type, and developmental level. Answers call lights timely and intervenes appropriately; responds to patient and family requests promptly. Transports patients to departments for services and upon discharge/transfer. Stocks and orders supplies for unit and/or patient; removes unused equipment, cleans equipment, and returns it to proper storage; keeps patient area clean and free of trash and clutter; manages linen storage and emptying hampers as needed. Provides and documents patient treatments within scope of practice. Attends and participates in unit‑related in‑services, conferences, and meetings; participates in performance‑improvement initiatives. Collaborates with others to achieve unit and organizational goals; uses proper chain of command for issue resolution. Performs additional related duties as assigned. Communicates clearly and supports the mission and values of Johnson Memorial Health. Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Emergency Department: EMT certification is highly preferred. Maternity Center: NPR certification required within one year of hire.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification as a Nursing Assistant or equivalent on‑the‑job training specific to the area for a minimum of three months required. Must maintain current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
