Effective Date: On or about August 1, 2025 (1-Year Appointment, Renewable)
Salary Range: The Student Services Professional Academic-Related, I (12-Month) classification salary is $85,524 to $153,252 per year (paid as 12 monthly payments). The anticipated hiring range is $85,524 to $119,400 per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Division of Student Affairs
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Under the supervision of the Director, the Counselor's primary responsibilities include providing counseling services to CSULB students on campus. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality counseling services with a holistic, collaborative, and integrated approach to CSULB students out of Student Health Services. In addition, this role adheres to the CSU Executive Order 1053 that defines the role of a counselor and their duties.
Required Qualifications:
• Master's degree in the related mental health field or Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program
• Licensed (i.e., Psychologist, LCSW, LPCC, & LMFT) in the state of California
• Demonstrated ability to provide strengths-based trauma-informed psychological services (clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy) on personal/interpersonal issues, multicultural issues, developmental/educational/career concerns, and the full range of mental health disorders
• Experience providing crisis intervention and triage work in a fast-paced setting
• Demonstrated commitment and/or expertise in working with a diverse population
• Demonstrated ability to provide outreach and consultation to a multicultural and diverse population.
• Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues, on/off campus partners, and coordinate with others
• Ability to maintain a positive and respectful attitude
• Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, peers, administrators, campus and University personnel, clients, state officials, vendors, professionals, management, etc.
Licensing Requirements for Mental Health Clinicians:
All mental health clinicians who are currently licensed must maintain their licensure status. Those joining the team post-July 1, 2011, in the SSP-AR classification must be licensed in California at the time of employment or obtain licensure within 24 months of starting. Individuals licensed in another state must secure California licensure within one year. During the licensure transition period, unlicensed individuals or those awaiting California licensure may provide care during the interim period of obtaining a license per state licensing requirements. These protocols include routine checks of licensure status and disciplinary actions through state license boards and, where applicable, the National Practitioner Data Bank/Health Care Integrity and Protection Data Bank.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated commitment and/or expertise in working with a diverse student population
• Providing outreach and consultation with a demonstrated commitment to working with the students and stakeholders
• Demonstrated professional interest, expertise, or experience in working with Black, Latinx, Native American, Asian/Asian American, LGBTQ, international, or first-generation college students
• Experience utilizing a time-limited model of care
• Experience and knowledge of electronic medical records systems (Titanium) that employ electronic record keeping, scheduling and data collection
• Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain cooperative working relationships
• Strong verbal and communication skills to communicate effectively with both clinical providers and campus partners
• Demonstrated effectiveness as part of a professional team
• Outreach experience, showing a history of direct service and engagement with campus communities
• Experiences of group therapy; crisis intervention and management; electronic health record system; teletherapy experience
Duties:
• Provides clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy to a diverse University student population, as well as outreach and consultation to and in the campus community and its various stakeholders.
• Provide consultative services to members of the university community regarding student mental health issues. As part of this consultation service, mental health professionals should identify and address real, perceived, and potential issues that may impede students' academic progress or success.
• Provide consultation regarding students (within professional, legal, and ethical boundaries) to faculty and staff who request such assistance.
• Provide consultation regarding students (within professional, legal, and ethical boundaries) to a student's parents, spouse, concerned friends, and other agents who are assisting with student care.
• The expectation is that mental health clinicians shall spend at least 60% to 65% of their base time providing direct services, which for the purposes of this recommendation, shall include individual/group counseling, intakes, assessment, crisis intervention, and other clinical services assigned.
• Supervise interns, as needed, as permitted by licensure
• Performs additional tasks as directed by the CAPS Director or the Student Affairs Leadership Team, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the department
